Remove modelling details

Hi all,

In a 3d model, say an ipt or iam file, it usually shows the design details in the browser.

These details tells that the way you created the sketches, features, planes, model, etc.

Are there any possibilities to remove the design details from the file?

I am not talking about the export formats (ie. STP, STL, SAT, etc)

I ask this because I sometimes don't want to show details that how I created the models.

Well, generally I don't mind to show them except someone sitting in the office by doing nothing but only "stealing" my ideas.

Thanks for your helps.

Hi,
Have you checked Derived Parts Option in Inventor.
http://help.autodesk.com/view/INVNTOR/2014/ENU/?guid=GUID-C4BC1C36-CCC0-4A3E-A7BD-E15A512A8023
1) Create Parts or assembly in your Local Drive, which is not shared.
2) Create Derived Parts containing parts or assembly in network drive.
3) Do not break the link till completion of work.
4) Then Break the link to your original component, so that other users, working along with you can open the file, but wont be able to see the design details.

Hope this idea helps......

Thanks for the tips.

I have created derived parts a few times. Need to spend some times to understand it.

My questions on this:

1) If the original component is in my local drive and I do not break the link, can other people be able to see my design details by opening the derived part in the network drive?

2) For the reason of revising/modifying the design later, how to rebuild the link if it has been broken?

Hi,

sorry for the previous suggestion to "break link". Do use the option "Suppress Link with Base Component", by this other user can see your file.

If you break link, its not possible to link again. so its not a good idea.....

If you want to update the derived part, you have to "unsuppress link" in your derived part.

Hope this works well for you...... 🙂
