Is there now a way of taking an assembly and creating a custom graphics copy of the assembly to surfacegraphics AND keep the original colors of the parts in the assembly? In other words the assembly and the resultant customgraphics would look the same.
Some releases ago, you could only re-color the complete surfacegraphics body as one color.

You can do that by creating a ComponentGraphics. It takes directly the ComponentDefinition of a part or assembly and will conserve the original colors.
Now if you really want to have a SurfaceGraphics there is no direct way to do it: the render style is affected at the GraphicsNode level, so you would need to create one node per render style, affect different style for each node and create as many SurfaceGraphics has needed.

Yes, SliceGraphics applies to the GraphicsNode, you can slice any graphics that belongs to that node.
