VPN & licensing

I have a user who is unable to fire up the application ADT 2008, while using VPN and a laptop to start ADT 2008 and is getting an error before the application even starts up stating: TITLE BAR: FLEXim License Finder. Your application was not able to obtain a license because the FLEXnet license server manager could not determine where to find the licensing data it needs. Please choose one of the following: etc etc. [error atached]

This is a computer that has no problem 'finding the key' on the company's LAN. This is only via VPN. Is it possibly a timeout issue?

Thanks, in advance, for your time.

If the user can ping the server by hostname, then it is most likely a timeout issue. Just use the system environment variable to extend it.

Thx Travis. Where would I find that timeout Variable. Unfortunately I'm trying to help someone over the phone, and am not an AutoCAD savy tech . . . yet. 🙂

Go to your Windows System Properties. Click the Advanced tab. Click Environment Variables at the bottom.

Create a new System Variable (bottom half) called:

FLEXLM_TIMEOUT and give it a Value of 1000000. That's One million, 6 zeroes.

Click OK. Try again.

Besides this then another good cause is that windows netbios network
services doesn't always work over vpn.
Often when you enter a machine by name it gets looked up through "computer
browser" and netbios protocol which doesn't always work out. For this reason
it's always good to enter the dns name or ip address of the server to be
sure.
