Vault Basic 2014 could not find the Data Management Services on localhost

I am endeavouring to access fastenings from within Inventor Pro 2014 Service Pack 1a.

Firstly, I do not have a Design Tab that various commentators refer to and I have had to access the library via a User Command ‘Log In’ icon.

However, whichever way I log in i.e. via the latter ‘icon,’ via ‘Autodesk Vault 2014’ or ‘Autodesk Data Management / Autodesk Vault 2014,’  they each throw up the same error namely: “Vault Basic 2014 could not find the Data Management Services on localhost.”

I have changed localhost to the name of my PC to no avail.

Can anyone please let me out of my misery?

Thank you.

Did you actually install the ADMS and material content?  Or did you just install the Vault client?

Dear Travis Nave,
I have spent the last day+ trying to re-install Inventor Vault 2014.
Lately I have been working through the ‘Test for System Readiness.’
I am now down to one error which I am not sure how to overcome as follows:
    <Name>Checking ASP Status</Name>
<Information>Accessing a static file through the http protocol has passed.  ASPX file failed to run at URL:http://localhost:80/TestASP/TestASPNet.aspx.The remote server returned an error: (500) Internal Server Error.</Information>
    <Result>Failure</Result>
<Message>ASPX file failed to run at URL:http://localhost:80/TestASP/TestASPNet.aspx.</Message>

I am not sure exactly what the underlying remaining fault is i.e. is it a password problem or a port issue?

So I am both frustrated and somewhat stumped!

Nevertheless, I am grateful for your kind advice.

Do you have IIS installed?

This happens if you don't have it installed, or you installed it after .NET was installed.  Make sure port 80 is open and you aren't using any other web services like Apache.

Dear Travis Nave,

Thank you once again.

I am running Win7 x64.

I have followed the advice on the link you kindly offered and navigated to :C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\

and then typed the command aspnet_regiis.exe -ga "Christopher-PC\Network Service"

This prompted the error: 'aspnet_regiis.exe' is not a recognised as an internal command..

Would you happen to know what the correct command should be for my o/s please?

Thank you once again.

Dear Travis Nave,

I have produced a screenshot of the major settings most commentators seem to believe could be at the root cause of the error.

Does your experienced eye see anything set incorrectly?

I am most grateful.

Thank you once again.

CJ

You must not have either IIS nor ASP .NET installed.

Dear Travis Nave,

I think that is down to me ticking every box in desperation after my 20’th failure!

I have made the alteration but still receive this error:

  <CheckLogItem xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema">

    <Name>Checking ASP Status</Name>

<Information>Accessing an http static file failed at URL http://localhost:80/TestASP/TestASPNetStatic.txt.  </Information>

    <Result>Failure</Result>

<Message>Accessing an http static file failed at URL

http://localhost:80/TestASP/TestASPNetStatic.txt.  </Message>

I have tried pinging: http://localhost/AutodeskDM/Services/SecurityService.asmx

And received this error: HTTP Error 503. The service is unavailable.

Likewise when I try to ping:  http://localhost:80/TestASP/TestASPNetStatic.txt.

This is not the error message I received initially it looks as if somehow I have blocked the access?

Thank you for your kind assistance.

Dear Travis,

In the end, out of shear frustration, I set up a new O/S on a new hard-drive and managed to get the environment acceptable to load Vault. Like many others on the net reporting hassle, it would have been most conducive if the installation software, being so picky, configured the necessary software automatically.

But I am still left with two problems, bearing in mind all I wanted was to be able to insert bolted connections; a relatively straight forward task in previous editions of Inventor and Mechanical Desktop!

I noticed that despite the installation software confirming that the Content Center Files had been installed, they repeatedly do not appear to be. In fact if I revert back to the installation software, newly downloaded from the Autodesk website to be certain, it is happy to re-install all over again. And again! Each time confirming a successful installation.

And perhaps, because the Content Center Files are/were not installed, prior to its installation, Inventor Pro 2014 has no design tab and hence no Bolted Connections facility.

Can you help release me from my misery, for surely installing software really should not be this difficult?

Finally, difficulties with loading Vault aside; version 2014 is a joy to work with and feels like a mature, well-oiled machine, even to a relative novice like me.

Thank you so much for your kind assistance.

You might go ask again in the forum specific to your problem and reference this thread.

It is possible installing the vault server 2014, and the vault basic in the same machine, to work as a virtual server?, i need to do some test before installing in the real server... if so, what would be the components to consider for this installation? web server iis, sql...etc. THANKS IN ADVANCE

I have spent the last few days getting Vault working vis-a-vis problems with passing all 17 of the pre-installation checks.

Anyhow I have both Vault Basic 2014 (Server) and (Client) installed and I am able to log in to Vault OK from within Inventor Pro 2014.

I was confused by the issue of both client and server on the same machine and somewhat surprised at the lack of simple, coherent instructions.

Perhaps it is just me but I found the instructions in wikihelp might be fine if you knew what you were doing and just wanted to polish up on the basic parameters but far from helpful, if like me, you need a comprehensive blow by blow detailed explanation.

If you have problems with your setup I would be only too willingly to try and help.

Dear silverio.yanet

Unfortunately a lot of water has flowed under the bridge since I offered to help so I am having to rack my 'grey cells' to recall just what I did.

I do recall that in the end it was very simple.

I think it all boiled down to permissions but in shear despair I formatted a new disc and loaded a fresh copy of my operating system onto it (Win7 x64.) I then set the permissions of the Program Files, Program Files (x86), ProgramData, my User AppData folder and anywhere else the software was writing to, by editing each folder's 'Properties/Security/Edit' wherein I set up a new user called 'Users; and gave the option Full Control. I then went to the Advanced Tab and under 'Change Permissions' I ticked the bottom sub entry 'Replace all child object permissions etc.'

When it did a pre-load check I followed any error instructions to the letter although I seem to recall I only had one in the end.

I hope this helps.
