Two versions of FlexLM

Is it possible to have two versions of FlexLM running on the same network and not interfere with each other?

Currently, there is a network seat of 13 for AutoCAD Map 2005 running on FlexLM version 9.2.2 on one server. On a separate sever, there is going to be a network seat of 5 for AutoCAD Map 2007 running on FlexLM version 10.8.0. Is this going to cause a problem with getting the correct license from the right server?

It should work with no problem but personally I would upgrade both servers
to the latest version of FLEXnet.

It should work out pretty easily. Some customers that I know of are using up
to 20 servers on the same machine without problems.
However you want to make sure that the ports are hardcoded to avoid
colission problems between the applications.

I'm with JTB on this. Only run one NLM. Combine your license files.

Just to confirm what I think I'm understanding here. Its OK to run multiple
license services on one machine with one License manager as long as there
are no port conflicts? Even if the services are for completely different
applications?

Are there any known conflicts between the AutoCAD license service and any
others (besides port configurations)

I love the idea of consolidation. It has been the practice in the past to
avoid multiple licensing on the same server. Now I have FlexLM's all over
the place. (we'll... four locations anyway, and one is on a client laptop.
Not sure who's idea that was!)

Mike,
If you have different vendors you can and should have different license
services and it's no problem having that.
If you only have Autodesk products you should combine the license file.

Henrik,

How do you "hardcode" the ports? I can't seem to find any config options in
the interfaces.

Yeah, I'm running license services for ADSK, ESRI, and Safe all on the
same server with the same copy of FlexLM. No problems, other than
ensuring that all of them are running on different ports, and that
you're running the most recent version of FlexLM.

You make this in the vendor license file.
To find the current used port you can use lmtools.exe.
The format of the SERVER line in the license file is:
SERVER host hostid [port]
Example:
SERVER my_server 17007ea8 27000
or
SERVER my_server 17007ea8 TCP:27000
Use lmtools.exe and make sure the license file is ReRead or stop and start
the service.

Though, if the license files for each vendor are compatible formats, you can combine the LIC files for them as well. LMTOOLS will show the seats of Autodesk software and other vendors appropriately.

This only works if the headers for each LIC file are identical. You combine the INCREMENTS as you would any autodesk software, but you also combine the VENDOR lines as well. And make sure that you are using the latest version of the LMTOOLS.

Good Luck!
