Student accidentally downloaded 64bit software onto 32bit system

So i have already downloaded the 64bit versions of both 3ds Max and Maya student software on my desktop PC.

I decide to install a second copy of each on my 32bit laptop, but the downloader gave me the 64bit version.

I tried reinstalling, but all I got was addon software and other programs because the downloader saw that I already had the main program. So I tried to uninstall everything, but only got rid of the side programs because the uninstaller would never open for the main programs. Finally I got fed up and tried to remove the software manually by going into the hard-drive and deleating the autodesk file from Documents, Program Files, and Program Files(x82), got rid of everything except the Program Files one, which gave me an error box saying that the file was open in another program. I have rebooted my laptop several times and am still having the same problem.

All I want is to be able to run the 32bit version of the software on my laptop for when I travel.

Please Help!

johnrose169,

Hello. Manually deleting files does not uninstall a program, but it may really mess up your ability to uninstall though. Can you check your Control Panel and see if the program lists under add/remove programs? If it exists, try to uninstall it. If this completes, great, if it fails, fine…. But when this step is done one way or the other, run the MS fixit uninstall tool:

http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall\

Try to uninstall your program through this tool.

Then look for remaining program folders (they will be clearly named) in these locations and delete:

C:\Program Files\Autodesk\

C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\

C:\Program Files (x86)\Autodesk\

C:\Users\All Users\Autodesk\

C:\Users\**YOUR USERID**\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\

C:\Users\**YOUR USERID**\AppData\Local\Autodesk\

Now, you need to try and download the software to your laptop.

Take some things into consideration with your download:

If you are on a wireless connection, plug in.

Check potential software blocks: browser popup settings, antivirus settings, etc.

This/these is/are large files. If your bandwidth takes time, you may want to review your computer sleep settings. If your computer goes into hibernation during a long download- it will likely affect your download.

You will want to download the program from the student center for your 32 bit architecture. Some installers are both. It should display in the download itself, BUT, if you accidentally download a 64 bit installer, the architecture of the download will not allow it to install.
