Slow Print Dialogs - Permissions Issue

I have a client who is experiencing slow print dialogs (they take 10-15 seconds to appear) with AutoCAD 2006 on a Windows 2000 Server network. Support article #TS62597 says that one cause of the symptom is user profile or file permission problems. I have logged on as administrator as suggested in the article and confirmed that the dialogs appear with normal speed, so I think the problem is with profiles or permissions.

My question is: What should I look for in the user profile or file permissions that would cause the slow print dialogs? One user is simply a member of the generic Users group, while another, who is also experiencing the problem, is a member of both Users and Administrators. When I log on to either computer with a 3rd (User) account, the print dialogs appear after a normal short delay.

Do this...

Pull out the ethernet cable from your computer and try to print. I bet your dialog box pops up immediately.

Therefore, you should install your network printer as a local printer using an IP port with the network address of your printer/JetDirect. Using it as a network shared printer causes unnecessary overhead that will cause your print dialog to be slow.
