Server did not respond in 5 seconds

Hi All,
Here's a strange one.

I have a 10 laptop mobile lab with a distributed server model.
Lab01 and Lab02 are the license managers.
Very basic deployment - all machines XP Pro SP2 with Civil3D 2008 and Raster 2008 as network deployments. Peer2Peer network. Nothing fancy and.....
The 08 products launch fine and the LM recognizes the license on all 10 machines...
Keep in mind Lab02 (the 2nd LM) has not been turned on for the last week...this will make sense later...

I was doing a network deployment of Civil3D 2009 to Lab01 (the main license server), Admin Image installed fine and I installed the software on Lab01, the LM recognized all of the licenses, but when launching C3D09 on Lab01 I get a "Specify License Server" dialog.
I type in the server name Lab01 (incidently the same system the LM and C3D09 are on) and I get a <<"Server "Lab01" did not respond within 5 seconds, the server may not exist, or communications are not possible at this time">> dialog...

I went through a number of troubleshooting...Ethernet address in system and LIC fil match (the 2008 products still launch), the ADSKFLEX....variable is set correctly ( @Lab01; @Lab02 ) (BTW the 08 products still launch) even LICPATH.LIC is good....Registry entries seem ok....
2009 will still not launch (see 5 second error above)....

So....................Here's the weird part

(Keep in mind Lab02, the second LM, has not been turned on in a week)
I went and booted up Lab02 to see if I could use that as the LM and Network deployment system for the C3D2009.
I checked the LMTOOLS => Server Diagnostic and...........It actually shows both 2008 and 2009 licenses - This machine has not been booted during this whole procedure.
How could Lab02 be seeing the licenses? The license file for Lab02 only has the 2008 products (why does Lab02 see 2009 licenses that are not even in it's own license file)?...

I tried to set Lab01 to see the Lab02 LM but same error.
(another BTW - ping between system are fine - I can see shared folders, network folders, tracert, ipconfig looks great, etc...)

Plus, I still can't get 2009 to launch even considering both LMs see all of the licenses...

Any ideas, suggestions???
I have a 2009 New Features Workshop to do with the mobile lab on Friday (no pressure)
Thanks in advance for everybody's time...

Cheers,

AWood

Have you upgraded to the license server exe files that comes with 2009 on
both 1 and 2?

Hi Jimmy,
I did, on both...lmutil, lmgrd, lmtools, adskflex are all 11.4.1

Thanks for the reply,

Why have two license servers? Are you not using the 2nd one anymore?

In any case, you could try increasing the timeout system environment variable. Or, you could make a hosts file addition that points your 2nd server back to your 1st one that has the 2009 licenses.

Thanks for the reply,
I did two LM servers, first to test the distributed server model, second so I could split the lab in case we had two classes...
Nevertheless...
I did set the FLEXLM_TIMEOUT but still got the same "5 second" error.
The distributed server model should do just that, look at one server...can't find a license...look for the next server...
In this case, even though the systems are communicating, 2009 still comes up with the"Server did not respond in 5 seconds" error....
I set everything up the same with 2006, 2007, and 2008 and they all worked fine...
Is there any significant change to the LM for 2009 that anyone is aware of?
Thanks all

AWood
