We have seen several posts on this site for problems trying to save AutoCAD
files to a Novell 5.1 server with the 4.8 client. Users will randomly
receive the error message of "This file cannot be saved as it is being
accessed by another user". There is a thread on the Novell newsgroup with
over 30 responses related to this problem. Apparently this is a Novell bug
that only affects CAD files (and not just AutoCAD). We have tried many
fixes such as setting client variables (file caching, file commit), setting
ISAVEPERCENT to 0, setting ISAVEBAK to 1, loading the 3D update, changing
server caching variables, disabling antivirus, and even loading a Beta SP3
version of client 4.8 to no avail.
To give you the specifics on my case: 30+ Win NT SP6 clients, Novell
clients 4.7-4.8SP3, AutoCAD 2000 SP2. No one (even Novell) seems to be
offering a solution to this problem. If anyone has encountered and
conquered this problem, please respond.
