Saving Files on Network

Hi,

When saving files to a network drive i usually get an error message saying

"Unable to Save Drawing Q:\(path)... as it is being accessed by another

session, even though i am the only one using this file. After answering OK

to this error message it creates a file called SAVE.AC$. Does this seem like

a problem with my AutoCAD or maybe even a problem with my network. If anyone

has any ideas on what the story is, please let me know.

Thanks

Theo.

Theo,

Hi Jerry,

The workstations running windows 2000, Pentium III 700 with about 256Mb RAM

The server is just running NT4 (just a file server), with aabout 128Mb RAM,
Pentium II 350.

Hope you can help.
Thanks.

Theo,

I have seen your kind of problem when servers are considerably slower than
the workstations. What appears to happen is that the server does not
process an AutoCAD request to release a lock on a file allowing a subsequent
rename request to 'beat' the lock release. This causes the file to become
flagged read-only because AutoCAD can no longer determine the status of the
file. To verify, try saving between your workstations, if the problem goes
away, it is time to start thinking about a server upgrade. Defragging your
hard disk and adding more RAM on the server MAY help. If you have some RAM
about that you can borrow this could be a cheap temporary fix.
