loading C3D on my laptop, single user, admin rights, running XP media - sP3, get the install and can run C3D once then the next time it will fail to load. AutoCAD runs fine. Have changed users, reset user and can run again once. Have installed with antivirus avast! stopped, but still same.
Also on a change in the start services get a message that need to be the administrator to make all changes, but that is the user level of rights? Are there issues with Avast! or XP-media with the 32 version of 2011?
Can you explain this in more detail? Include screen shots of error message and be as detailed as you can. Also check in the Windows Application logs for any errors.
there are not screen errors it just goes the AutoCAD report dialog box. i have installed many ways and times. The software will run once then no more. The local machine software reg-setting has two lines for teh Civil 3 D
Do you mean you are getting the option to send a Customer Error Report or CER? If so can you put something I can search on in it and check if the report has useful troubleshooting information. Your Discussion Groups User ID would be good. Let me know when you have submitted it and I’ll search for CER's.
Your comment about the Registry makes me think you are using a system utility or Registry Cleaner. These typically do more bad than good. It could be that Avast! is causing this. If Avast! has the ability to exclude applications from its scanning try and exclude the acad.exe. Have you tried to perform a repair install from the Add and Remove Programs List?
I just sent anothre report in but did not include the name is not included. I have an SR#1-9744111961 support request in currently. I have not used a registry cleaner in 2 years, and did not clean reistry setting but other items. The repair did not work, I have had to do clean unistalls (white paper) and a user reset. Both would allow one use (had to reinstall for thec clean uninstall). I am going home where we have no internet so I wll likely be back in a day or two.
Thanks
Hi thank you for the update. I have informed the technician that is working on your Service Request that you have this forum post. If you could add the SR number to your CER submissions it would be a great help in our capacity to help you.
are you running xp media center?
cause if you are that could be the problem

thats not a supported os for any autodesk product
all that os was for was to turn your computer into a dvr
not to run any software like civil 3d
you need to upgrade your os

I meant to say that it worked for 2009 & 2010 verisons, but that would explain the strange problem.
Windows XP Media Center Edition was not tested and is not supported so I don’t have a lot of information on using AutoCAD Civil 3D on Windows XP Media Center Edition. I here talk of permissions problems but I am not certain they would account for your problems. You might try adding the Program Files
You might try granting modify permissions to these resources for the users:
- C:\Program Files\Autodesk\AutoCAD Civil 3D 2011
- C:\Program Files\Common Files\Autodesk Shared
- C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Autodesk
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Autodesk\AutoCAD\R18.1\ACAD-9000:409
