Problem installing Autocad for Mac

When I go to download the new student version, The installer.dmg mounts, but when I click on the Akamai icon, I get an error message:

Install Error

Failed to install client: Disk I/O Failure. Failed in writing contents of file /Applications/Akamai/client.ini to disk. Aborting installation.

I'm installing it on my personal computer, on my home network.

Are you running this as admin user ? this is the downlload manager from akamai. which helps in faster download of the actual Autocad Package.

Please try as admin user. it should work.

I am having the same problem as well. I am the Admin on the computer, the only user on the computer. Whenever I try to open the Akamai link, I get the following error message.

Install Error

Failed to install client: Disk I/O Failure. Failed in writing contents of file /Applications/Akamai/client.ini to disk. Aborting installation.

Any help would be great.

This error is from Akamai download manager,

you could try to create an admin user and try.

If you still have issue you could try to download the software using a different browser

or

try to get the download manager from the Akamai Demo page(you can cancel the sample file download). once this is installed,

http://client.akamai.com/demos/csd-BasicDownload.html

you can try to download the Auotcad Mac software from Autodesk site, which should use the latest download manager installed using Demopage.

OK, here is how to do this and make it work.

In your profile open the Utilities Folder > Directory Utility.  With Directory Utility Open on the menu line click Edit then check Enable Root User.

Click the apple and log out user.  When the login screen shows up there will be your normal user and Other.

Click Other, type root as the user and the root password you setup when you set up your Mac.  The same password you use when you use the SUDO command.

Fill out the application for the software in that profile, the Akamai Loader loads and the AutoDesk AutoCAD for Mac DMG starts downloading.  Select the save location as your desktop of your normal profile and select save.  Log out of root, log back in as your normal profile and the dmg file is ready to load.

I have a MacBookPro 17" with OSX 10.5.8, I know there are subtle differences in how to enable the root user but the general idea is there.

I installed AutoCAD for Mac in my normal profile and it works well, same drawing toolbox, same settings, my old drawings open fine.  This is a fine application especially for first gen on the Mac.

For me, I found a solution. I don't know if it was just added, but it works, at least for the Education download.

If you select the AutoCad 2011 for Mac Download, it takes you to the page that has the download button, serial number, and product key on it. Instead of hitting the download button, there is a sentence just below it:

"If you are having trouble with your download, please click here to download using your browser."

All I had to do was click on the word "here" and it started to download the actual AutoCad 2011 for Mac disk mount image, instead of the Akamai dmg. When that was downloading, I installed it like I would any other app, and AutoCad runs great for me.

Same problem here except after getting the error message a few times, I checked for software updates to the OS.  There was an update for Java.  Now I don't get the error message - NOTHING happens.  At least the error message told me it tried to work.

It's ridiculous that I can't download the trial because of some defective third party software!   Can't Autodesk make its own disk image?  Maybe I should wait for the next release of Autocad for Mac, if the installer doesn't even work, how much can I expect from the software itself???

there are some other suggestions in these forums

update Java to JavaForMacOSX10.4Release9

http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/AutoCAD-for-Mac/Installer-Crashes/m-p/2798486/highlight/true#M39

or give permissions to /Applications folder.

There are ways to make it work, see above.  This is a really nice product.  I am not an Autodesk employee and have been waiting for AutoCAD for Mac for years.  I got this installed and love it.  Don't wait for future releases.  The thing that is failing is not the AutoCAD installer, it is the Akamai downloader.  Once I logged into my root account everything worked fine with the downloader, then I logged back into my regular account to load AutoCAD.

Don't give up, the AutoCAD software is worth not having to load Windows in bootcamp or have a separate computer for AutoCAD.

I have a different problem. Trying to start trial version I downloaded and installed from Autodesk side I can see Autocad 2011 starting page saying “loading” and then nothing happens. I can see no Autocad. I installed id twice and there was no result at all. I was trying it on both MacBook Pro 2.66 Intel Core i7 (8 GB ram) and Mac Pro 2x3.2 Quad Core Xeon (6 GB ram) both with OS X 10.6.4 and I have the same problem. Is there a simple solution to this problem?

I had the same problem but it's simple to fix it. You're probably person which main language is different than english or german. My main language is polish. To open AutoCAD You have to change Your main language for instance english and restart Your Mac. Than You can easily run AutoCAD. Good luck!
