PDFCreator starts PDSP 2015 installer

Hi,

I encounter a strange compatibility issue with Autodesk Product Design Suite Premium 2015 and a PDF creator. The Autodesk products install and work fine, but as soon as we start PDFCreator, a PDF creator by pdfforge, it starts one of the installers of Navisworks. The specific installer is called roamer.msi and is located in the following PDSP 2015 installer directory: x64\NAVSIM\. When I start Navisworks directly, the program launches fine without an installer being started.

I reinstalled PDSP 2015 and excluded Navisworks from the installation. This time PDFCreator starts an Inventor installer: Inventor.msi located in x64\Inventor\. When the installation is canceled, it will reappear for 4 times, then PDFCreator opens normally.

The following actions did not resolve the problem:

  • Reinstalling PDSP 2015 with antivirus disabled
  • Reinstalling using a local administrator account, UAC off and temp folder cleared
  • Reinstalling from a different installation medium ( network / USB HDD )
  • Installing on different computers
  • Installing all available PDSP 2015 service packs

Uninstalling PDFCreator, reinstalling PDSP 2015 and installing PDFCreator again did not resolve the problem either. When all PDSP 2015 products are uninstalled, the installer does not appear again.

After a user completes the installation started by PDFCreator, the installation does not re-occur when PDFCreator is started again. However every new user who logs in to the computer will have to go through the installation when he/she wants to use PDFCreator.

Can anyone help me / give me more insight in the link between PDSP 2015 and the PDFCreator ?

The domain computers used are Windows 7 Professional 64bit pc’s with all available updates / service packs installed.

Thanks in advance !

have you contacted anybody with pdfcreator seeking support?  Although I can't imagine what type of support you could get for free software, this seems to be pdfcreator's problem and not Autodesk software.

Go To the Event Viewer and take a look to the "Windows Logs" Application, Setup and System.

There should be a hint why the msi "self-healing" is started. Post the messages here, then I can take a look.

Hi,

Thanks for the replies.

at ampster:
I am not sure this is a PDFCreator problem. When all Autodesk products are uninstalled, PDFCreator works just fine. Maybe it has something to do with the virtual printer functionality of PDFCreator ?

at m.latz:
Below you will find the Event Viewer messages. I am not sure the Windows Error Reporting logs are related to the Navisworks installation. Attached you will find a text file with the detailed Event Viewer logs.

Thanks in advance !

It looks like, that there is a problem with the registry key and/or file for

{9D7AF9A9-2E52-0000-B0D0-652C6A18F3B8}', feature 'Roamer', component '{0C5F50D5-941E-4949-9A77-A3AC101E5AA6}' failed. The resource 'HKEY_CURRENT_USER(64)\SOFTWARE\Autodesk\Navisworks Simulate x64\12.0\Install\ICE43\roamer.exe' does not exist.

But I'm not sure what's wrong ...

Wrong location of "roamer.exe"

Wrong registry keys

...

I have to check. But takes a little bit, because I have to request for Autodesk Product Design Suite 2015. Which language version do you have ?

hello

we have similar problem here in our machines.

when we start one program (it is called ProArc) then configuration of some AutoDesk software is starting unexpectedly.

It is difficult to find reason because on some machines it is AutoCAD, on some Nawisworks, and on some all is fine...

I believe it is something with Windows rather than any of those programs.

It's the "self-healing" feature of the Windows installer. Look in the event viewer.

Hello

On one machine it says:

warning 1

Detection of product '{5783F2D7-E005-0000-0102-0060B0CE6BBA}', feature 'P', component '{370E1EB0-04EF-4807-8B56-4562457473B8}' failed.  The resource 'C:\Users\admin_mok\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\WebServices\Dummy.txt' does not exist.

We are not logged as admin_mok so do not know why it is asking for some file from admin_mok.

warning 1

On other machine it says:

Detection of product '{D0BA3759-C59F-42FF-BFC1-7EBE1956C095}', feature 'Roamer', component '{1E4C8377-D4FF-40A3-A72D-5FA790EDA6EA}' failed.  The resource 'HKEY_CURRENT_USER(64)\SOFTWARE\Autodesk\Navisworks Simulate x64\9.0\Install\ICE43\roamer.exe' does not exist.

warning 2

Detection of product '{D0BA3759-C59F-42FF-BFC1-7EBE1956C095}', feature 'Roamer' failed during request for component '{22056900-C842-11D1-A0DD-00A0C9054277}'

It is still possible to start that Navisworks software without any problems.

Does it say anything important ?

hello

i just tried few things more.

on machine 1 where it was asking for a file i checked if the file is there.

It is there.

So i renamed file to other name and started the problematis software (proarc).

It was still asking for that file (but this time it was correct that it does not exist because i changed name of it).

then i turned off this software and changed name back of that file to original.

And started proarc.

Error was gone.

So it was kind of 'unregistering'.

but dont know still why it was asking for this file when starting completelly other software.

On second machine we installed new version of Navisworks.

Error was still there.

But this time it was not asking for admin passowrd to do something as it was doing before.

So we let it go doing what it wanted.

And now error is gone.

It does not explain reason, just a kind of work around.

Reason still unknown.

We will see if there are more machines with similar errors, amybe we will find out more 'work arounds'.

Hi,

I have searched Windows Explorer and the registry for “roamer.exe”. I came to the following information:

EXPLORER

The file “C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Naviswork?s Simulate x64\12.0\Install\ICE43\roamer.exe” does not exist, neither does the directory “C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Naviswork?s Simulate x64”.

I do could find ‘roamer’ in the following directory:
C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Navisworks Simulate 2015\Roamer.exe
C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Navisworks Simulate 2015\Roamer.exe.config
C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Navisworks Simulate 2015\roamer.tlb

REGISTRY

The registry key “HKEY_CURRENT_USER(64)\SOFTWARE\Autodesk\Naviswork?s Simulate x64” does not exist. When I complete the installation started by PDFCreator, the registry key is created.

See attachments 1 & 2 for screenshots.

When I login with the local administrator account - the account who installed PDSP2015 – I notice a lot more Autodesk registry keys under HKEY_CURRENT_USER.
See attachment 3 for screenshot.

Both registry values of the local administrator account and the domain user account point to “C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Navisworks Simulate 2015\Roamer.exe” not to “C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Naviswork?s Simulate x64\12.0\Install\ICE43\roamer.exe”.

I experimented with importing the Navisworks “HKEY_CURRENT_USER(64)\SOFTWARE\Autodesk\Naviswork?s Simulate x64\12.0\Install\ICE43” key under several domain accounts. Sometimes this fixed the PDFCreator installation issue, sometimes it didn’t. I don’t understand it.

Please fix this bug.

Thanks in advance

The issue is resolved in PDFCreator 2.0 ( released on the 27th of November 2014 )
