Network License File Environment Variable Question

Hi:

Last week at AU I was told that I could somehow use ADSKFLEX in the environment variable, instead of LM_LICNESE_FILE, to aliveate some problems I was having when the client machine had other FlexLM software loaded on it. I am not sure how to do that - any insight would be appreciated.

Thanks;
Nick

Hi Nick,

Use ADSKFLEX_LICENSE_FILE instead of
LM_LICENSE_FILE.  That will improve behavior in two ways.  First, the
setting only influences Autodesk products and this variable will override any
other server path setting for Autodesk Products.

Jerry,

Which location is ADSKFLEX_LICENSE_FILE to be placed...

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\FLEXlm License Manager

or

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Session Manager\Environment

Thanks in advance...

Tim

looks like both locations would be used...not sure why though.

Also, I'm getting conflicting info...ie on JTB, they state that you should use 27000@server instead of @server.

I don't see a problem either, but is one faster than the other if the WAN is worldwide?

it wouldn't hurt to test it on one machine

The NLM connects to 27000 to lmgrd by default anyway, so it's not really going to make a difference.  On a WAN, you'll want to add the FLEXLM_TIMEOUT variable as well to overcome latency.

I love it! Each time Autodesk relaunches their homepage non of the links work anymore.

I guess a few month ago this would have been a very helpful thread to me. And now?

Thanks Autodesk...

Agreed. I am not a big fan of the change w/o appropriate redirects.  In any case, as complains come up, I will try to provide the new links:

Good Luck!
