Moving LMTools from 2003 to 2012 server

I am in the process of decommissioning a 2003 server that is running LMTools version 11.4 for our AutoCAD Map3D 2008 software. I would like to move this to a new 2012 server. I was not the original Administrator to install this application and my research indicates the license file must have the mac address of the new server. The problem is I do not know who to contact to get this file? I have very limited documentation, a phone number and email apparently from the original reseller but they have not responded to any of my inquiries.

Another question I have; I downloaded the latest version of LMTools from Autodesk, when I install this on our 2012 server does it install the 2 license mangers that are running on my 2003 server now?

  1. Autodesk Network License Manger
  2. FLEXnet Publisher License Server Manger

Please help!!! Thanks

You can download the latest version of the license manager by following the information in my 2015 link here:

http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/installation-licensing/autodesk-network-license-manager-2015/td-p/4923...

I definitely recommend running the latest version on Server 2012.

For a Quick-Start Guide on configuring the Autodesk License Manager, please see my post for further information:

http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/Installation-Licensing/Quick-Start-Guide-for-Configuring-LMTOOLS/m-p/3...

As for obtaining your 2008 license file.  That part will be the hardest.  You can either call your Reseller for help, or you can try http://register.autodesk.com and try it yourself.  You might also be able to do it from Subscription Center, but this software is long retired.  That's the worst part... your software is so old.

Keep me posted on how far you get.

Good Luck!

Thanks for your reply Travis, I have gained access to the registration portal apparently using the original administrator account and have the serial number of the AutoCAD Map3D. If I were to re-register this product do you believe we can generate a new license file, is this how it works? Also, is there any risk in disrupting the current license file manager running on the 2003 server by doing so? Not sure if these applications are calling home or not.

No, you shouldn't have a problem obtaining a new license file if you are able.  Once installed on the new server, you will want to retire the License Manager on the 2003 server or it will cause a port conflict.  You can then point the clients to the new server.  The process is actually quite simple once you have the new license.  That's the hard part.  😉

Great Travis, I just created the new license file for the new server. Now I just need to figure out the the installation process for the LMtools. I found your instructions from 2011, will these apply for the new LMTools version?

Yep.  I think I even made a video for it.

Looks like you're on the right track.

OK, the new server is running as the License Manger and I disabled the old LMtools service before taking the server down for good. I need to point the clients but have never done so before. Is there a step by step on this? Thanks for all your help Travis.

Absolutely.

You can do so via the instructions here:

http://knowledge.autodesk.com/search-result/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/How-to-specify-license-se...

Also, the clients should ask where the new server is, if it cannot find it.

Good Luck!
