Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable (x86) - Failed - Installation aborted

This is the most progress I've made with my install of Autodesk Inventor 2010 (as Administrator).  I have Windows 7 and everything meets the software requirements.  After entering the S/N and Prod Key, and click Finish, I get back a message saying that the install failed.  The referenced log file reads:

2011/2/20:15:36:47 Administrator DAD-PC Install Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable (x86) Failed Installation aborted, Result=1603
2011/2/20:15:36:53 Administrator DAD-PC === Setup ended ==

I checked under Control Panel (Programs) and I already have a number of C++ versions installed:

- Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 ATL Update kb973923 - x64 8.0.50727.4053

- Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 ATL Update kb973923 - x86 8.0.50727.4053

- Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable (far right says version 8.0.58299)

- Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable (far right says version 8.0.56336)

- Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable (x64) (far right says version 8.0.56336)

- Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 ATL Update kb973924 - x86 9.0.30729.4148

- Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable x86 9.0.30729.17

Does one (or more) of these need to be removed?  Any advice how to proceed with the install and skip the C++ step?

I had already tried everything in the second link.

As for the first one - how do I edit my registry?  That's something I have never done.

Ok, I finally tried this out.  It did not work.

The first registry item was not listed.

As for the second registry item - what was I supposed to change?  Put a hyphen in front of the name?

This is the same response as posted prviously, just in a different spot.

My question still stands - it says to "rename" the key - but rename it to what????  Rename implies that you are calling it something else.

you can rename with "old_" as prefix. or you can delete the key (please take a bakup before you do this)

I'm having the same problem on my PC running Windows 8, trying to install Revit 2014. Why would a potential user have to make changes to the registry and other nonsense to install a software? I've never, EVER, had so much trouble attempting to install any software.

The installation issues all come from a buggy and not well written installation file, pediod.

I hope someone at Autodesk replies with some useful information.

Hey.

I was experiencing this issue trying to install 3dsMax 2014 Student Edition. Turns out some registry keys were corrupt for some reason. I think it has something to do with having Visual Studio 2008, 2010, 2012, and 2013 installed on the same PC, but that is just a hunch. I fixed the issue by running this tool from Microsoft.

(click the Fix It option, run the tool, then restart)

It seems there's a great deal of users having problems installing C++ redistributable packages. I myself is not a computer gizmo, Google is my best partner. Computer techies advise doing silent install of failed C++ redistributable installations, but many of plain users like you and me does not know how to do that. Thanks to Google and Desktop Central I found this useful link which provide the install switch how to silent install the erring package.

Visit this link for the install switch -

https://www.manageengine.com/products/desktop-central/software-installation/silent_install_Microsoft...

${sharedPath}vcredist_x86.exe /q:a /c:"VCREDI~1.EXE /q:a /c:""msiexec /i vcredist.msi /qn"" "

These are old school DOS commands, I don't understand what those letters/slashes/quote marks mean or do, I just copy/paste them.

From the Autodesk extracted folder, click on "3rd Party" there you will find X86 and X64 folders containing the C++ redistributable packages needed for installation.

On my specific case, C++ 2005SP1ATL is the culprit.

1, Copy "vcredist_x86.exe" from X86 folder to root drive C:/
2. Click Start-Run and paste the installer switch above

${sharedPath}vcredist_x86.exe /q:a /c:"VCREDI~1.EXE /q:a /c:""msiexec /i vcredist.msi /qn"" "

Type to replace "${sharedPath}" with "C:\vcredist_x86.exe" (without the quotes)

C:\vcredist_x86.exe /q:a /c:"VCREDI~1.EXE /q:a /c:""msiexec /i vcredist.msi /qn"" "

After pressing Enter it's should be like nothing happened, no warning or indication, silent install method as suggested. If it gives a warning or error message, check for typo mistakes.

NOTE: To verify which C++ package failed during installation, check the install log appearing on Revit message after installation failed. Go to extracted folder of Revit installer 3rd Party/X86 or 3rd Party/X64. Copy the specific EXE of that package on the desktop and right-click, run it as Administrator. You will see if it installs correctly, either it will show success install dialog or it will just simply close like nothing happened, it's ok. But if gives an error message saying like it cannot install due to incompatibilities or something else, then using above silent method may work. I don't know if this has something to do on the OS, maybe more likely on hardware configuration of many different machines.

Hope this tutoo helps in anyway. I claim no responsibilty what happens on your machine, it's not 100% guarantee it'll work, maybe not, though it did certainly worked on my case. Btw, I succesfully installed Revit 2017 Trial on WIN10-HOME-X64-1607 on my ASUS-ROG G752VY-DH78K i7-6820/8GB-NVIDIA-G980M-CARD/64GB-RAM/2X-256GB-SSD+1TB-SATA.

Patience and persistence sometimes bring positive results.

Have a nice Revit day folks Smiley HappySmiley Very Happy

In the unlikely event that C++ 2005 x86 still fail during installation -

Autodesk version of 2005SP1ATL x86 redistributable package is 8.0.56336 (which is failing during Revit installation).
Microsoft Update installed C++ 2005 redistributable package version 8.0.59193.
Both versions are installed shown on Windows 10 Programs and Features.

You might just want to wait until Microsoft updates your C++ app and try to reinstall Revit until then.
