Maya / MAX 2013 Failure to install

I have both MAX and Maya on subscription, but as of the 2013 release I am only able to install one of the programs at a time.

I can get either Max 2013 or Maya 2013 to work on my computer, but only if I erase all versions of all Autodesk products beforehand and manually delete the "ProductInformation.pit" file located in "C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\AdLM" between installations.

Worse, since installing Max 2013 I'm no longer able to re-install Max 2012, as it keeps hanging on the Material Library installation. Very frustrating as it means I have now lost access to some of my most used plug-ins such as Vray (until the 2013 patch comes out).

Currently I have MAX 2013 installed, as that is the program I use most, but now have no access at all to any version of Maya.

If I try to install Maya 2013, it installs the DirectX portion, then on the main Maya installation it quits with the following log file :

Problem solved !!

After speaking to Autodesk Support, I was asked to clear out any temp files, so that a clean LOG file would be generated and then posted on to Support when the next installation failed.

My process was :

-       Manually delete the PIC file (needed to un-install the one package I was able to install)

-       Un-install MAX via Revo Uninstaller, including a scan to mop up any remaining files.

-       Carried out a file search for “*.temp” and “*.log” on the C-Drive and manually deleted anything that looked as though it belonged to any Autodesk product (there were several).

-       Run a system clean up with CClean.

-       Re-install MAX 2013

-       ….. and then re-install Maya 2013

-       It worked.

As deleting the “temp” and “LOG” files were the only thing I did extra to the previous half a dozen attempts, I can only assume that the problem was in one of these rogue files.

Hope this helps someone else.
