Maya 2012 and 2013 student edition installation trouble.

I have to install Maya for one of my classes and the professor said to use either the 2012 or 2013 edition. When installing either one everything goes smoothly up until it starts to actually install. When it runs the install for the MS C++ 2005 part of the installation it goes for a few minutes then everything ends. I am told that the installation was successful but that some components failed to install, maya itself being one of the things that did not install. It does not pop up any error message during this process but when I check the installation log file, it says the same thing for both the 2012 and the 2013 versions ( I tried both in case there was some error with one over the other). It says this every time in the log file

I have searched for the 1603 error and tried all of the things I could find that people found worked for them atm save for uninstalling every redistributable I have in one go instead of just the 2005 redistributable so far, can anyone help me find out what is causing this error?

The C++ is the error. Uninstall Maya and uninstall all the Microsoft C++ redistributrables. Then install Maya and all the modules should be replaced.

Have not had a chance to update but that is essentially what i had to do plus the dot net fix that came with the installer. Either way good advice!
