Maya 2011 Trial Installation Error

Hello,

I have been having some trouble installing the trial version of maya 2011. I'm using windows vista 64 bit with service pack 2 installed. Once I finish the install of maya 2011 I try to run the program and I receive a prompt saying:

License was not obtained

License method:
can't determine license method

Product choice:
can't determine product choice

License file override:
environment variable MAYA_ALT_EN is not set

I currently have Maya 2009 and Motion Builder 2010 installed as well but have never run into any issue when trying to install multiple versions of maya before.

Thank you

Dan M.

Sorry to revive an old thread, but I was sent here by a support specialist. I am having a very similar problem, but on Mac instead of PC. Here is the thread that details exactly what's going on:

http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/Installation-Licensing/Maya-2011-Mac-OSX-quot-error-20-quot/m-p/272917...

If anyone could assist with this, I would be extremely grateful. As per the advice in this thread, I checked my Licence.env file, and everything looks fine to me, so I don't think that can be the issue.

Hello,

I have the same problem as Learil on my Mac with Snow Leopard. I got the student's license, but when launching, Maya 2011 pops up wit the 'error 20' window. I tried to install it with using my activation key and trial (000...) key, with same results.

The weirdes thing is that I don't have those both folders you mentioned in the library:

/Library/Application Support/Autodesk/Adlm/

/Library/Preferences/FLEXnet Publisher/FLEXnet/

My Adlm is in Autodesk folder in Applications with the rest of the stuff that was installed.

Would appreciate any help.

I'm having the exact same issue, except that I have 3DS Max 9 previously installed instead of a previous Maya version. The fixes mentioned above seem to be what I need, but I can't follow those directions for a few reasons.I've never played with these settings or files before, so there's a good chance that I'm looking in the wrong places for these things, but as it is I'm pretty stuck right now.

rmawatson suggests editing the adlm log file in Flexlm to point to the proper location of Maya 2011. I wasn't able to find a specific "log file", and a search on "Flexlm" turned up only a shortcut to FlexLM License Utilities (LMTools). The license and debug files listed in LMTools, Config Services tab, do not exist on my computer, however, and are "located" in directories that do not exist either, nor does the lmgrd.exe file.

kent_2010 suggests editing the maya-location in the Environmental Variables panel in Control Panel/System/Advanced to point to the proper location of Maya 2011, but there is no maya-location variable to edit. Guessing, I added a new one I named "maya-location", with the correct path to Maya (C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Maya2011) as the variable, but that did nothing. I'm running Win XP Pro.

Hi rmawatson,

Are you using the Maya Trial or do you have plug-ins?

The MAYA_LOCATION environment variable is an advanced configuration for establishing a pointer to the Maya binaries. The use of this variable should only be necessary for a vast minority, if not none, of Maya Trial users. The use of the MAYA_LOCATION with side-by-side installations of Maya is not recommended as it can corrupt a Maya installation.

Trial users should verify that they have a correctly configured License.env file and that they have not exceeded the 30 day trial period when troubleshooting Trial License errors.

Alvador, Please delete the maya-location variable that you created. Then make certain the C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Maya2011\bin\License.env file is configured correctly. Please respond with a copy of your License.env file, screen shots of your errors, and the .log files from the path below if you continue to have problems.

     Windows 7 and Vista:

        C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\Adlm

    Windows XP:

        C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Autodesk\Adlm

I did delete that variable, as soon as I realized that it wasn't helping. A 3rd un/reinstall has corrected the problem. On the last (and successful) install, I had deleted all the files left behind from the uninstall (887M, I think something funky happened there too) and then let the installer (Autodesk_Maya_2011_English_Japanese_Win_32bit_Trial.exe) put the "Maya2011_32-bit" folder (where the actual Maya installer is) where it wanted to, C:\Autodesk, as opposed to C:\Program Files\Autodesk, which is where I'd put it before. No idea if that was part of the solution, but whatever it was it worked.

Hi Douglas

Fist I used the trial, until I got the DVD. Then I reinstall Maya 2011 and all the others programs etc.

There was no problem after.

Hi Kent,

Thank you for the response. Are you still using the MAYA_LOCATION variable? If so what is the circumstance that you require it? Do you have Maya 2011 installed side-by-side with a previous Maya release?

Hi, I've had the same problem. It downloaded and installed fine on my PC but I get that license error too. I installed it using the Win Setup in the Maya directory folder, it didnt ask for my license code, it just went ahead and installed. I also installed it on different partition (My E Drive). How can I enter my license code? =s

Hi All;

From what I've seen of this error there could be a couple possible issues with the licensing. Unforutnately I can't say which will resolve each situation as there's been alot of different posts on this thread. I find if you open the Console log at the same time that you try to load Maya you will get enough information/errors to help narrow it down.

1. The PIT file is missing or corrupt. This can happen from mulitple install / un-installs. Generally if you remove Maya, remove the PIT file and re-install this should clear it up. This will affect other Autodesk applications however so only use if necessary. You may need to re-install the other applications as well

2. Insufficient permissions to create/modify the PIT file and information.  If you don't have the full admin rights on that machine you won't be able to right to the PIT files or modify them when necessary

If you have specific errors from the console log(s) dealing with the loading of Maya please post them and I'll try to narrow it down for you.

Hi Dwayne!

I had this problem too (error 19)  installing the eval of 2011.  oddly  the initial splash screen upon  launch  where it asks you to "try or buy" would be blank wiht an error at the top  "java script must be enabled",  and 3 links(try/buy).   After doing the below (uninstall/reinstall) it was able to display the text and graphics and the error was gone,  but i no longer have 30 days to evaluate option and was being prompted to license the product before use.

I attempted to uninstall 2011 using the below steps:

- renamed the Adlm directory under /Library/Application\ Support/Autodesk/
- moved a slew dot files out of the way (names similar to .gCdsEyvEbhsFqamvqyprhFtvAd) under /Library/Preferences/FLEXnet\ Publisher/
- moved the dir FLEXnet out of the way.
- removed the Maya2011 directory under /Applications/AutoDesk

- ran the below commands but it don't think i was getting it correct based on the return errors:

adlmreg –u S 656C1 2011.0.0.F 000-00000000 /Library/Application Support/Autodesk/Adlm/PIT/MayaConfig.pit
adlmreg2011 -u S 656C1 2011.0.0.F 000-00000000 /Library/Application Support/Autodesk/Adlm/PIT/MayaConfig.pit
adlmreg2011 -u S 656B1  2011.0.0.F 000-00000000 /Library/Application Support/Autodesk/Adlm/PIT/MayaConfig.pit

the error on the above adlmreg2011 commands:
Pit file remove Failed. Reasons: 24

adlmreg would return(even tho I had the number of arugments correct, tried different product codes too):
Invalid number of arguments.
or with some product codes:
Registration failed with code: 26

after this was all done,  I re ran the Maya2011 installer,  launched the product.  The splash screen displayed correctly now,  but it claimed my evaluation was up (actually it didn't mention anything about trial period expiring,  just that I needed to license the product before use.).  entering in zero's for the license info didn't work.

My system local is and always has been English.

I have many Alias|Autodesk products installed on this mac.  I've never uninstalled any Alias|Autodesk products from this machine untill today (maya2011).

Permissions don't appear to be an issue.

As a final note,  not sure if its relevant at all but thought I'd mention it,  during my first attempt to install Maya2011 where it asks you to enter in your license if you have one,  and zeros for the trial,  I ignored that and clicked "next",  I did not enter in zeros..  I'm assumed if you don't it would fill these in by default.   The second attempt I did put in the zeros.

all the above is just for the record,  i'll be reciving a license soon.

take care and have a great day,

greg

Please help...Same Problem as described in the last 4 pages of posts. Nothing seems to work. Uninstalled, deleted all extra files, reinstalled. It worked the first time I ran it, but after that, when i re-started I got the attached error pop-ups.

I also attached the .env file. I read the post where you said "make sure it is configured correctly", but I have no idea what "correctly" means. I download on 1/7, so I should have plenty of time left on my trial.

Could you please post instructions to fix this that are more specific for non-tech savvy users? Despite searching, I can't locate most of the files you reference in previous posts, such as the console log and the Flexlm file. And if I did locate them, I would need clear instructions on what to do to them.

Thank you for your time.

One more thing, I tried deleting those two folders(adlm and Flexnet) and then reinstall maya as trial, but when I do so both folders come back and the same error occurs.
