Maya 2011 Trial Installation Error

Hello,

I have been having some trouble installing the trial version of maya 2011. I'm using windows vista 64 bit with service pack 2 installed. Once I finish the install of maya 2011 I try to run the program and I receive a prompt saying:

License was not obtained

License method:
can't determine license method

Product choice:
can't determine product choice

License file override:
environment variable MAYA_ALT_EN is not set

I currently have Maya 2009 and Motion Builder 2010 installed as well but have never run into any issue when trying to install multiple versions of maya before.

Thank you

Dan M.

I'm having this same problem, has a solution been found yet?

This sounds like a problem with the licensing. You might try renaming the C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\AdLM folder and try again.

After installing the trial version and setting the 30 day trial run. I attempted to run maya and i got an error message. Is there something I am doing wrong. Thanks.

Nothing is working for me. I tried 30 over times to install it and I get the same thing.
it's extremely frustrating.
even through the forums there are people who said to delete the ADLM folder or something/ it still doesn't work. could you please give me a COMPLETE working solution.
THANKS.

Most likely the cause of this error is corrupted License.env file, which is located:

Windows:

For Maya 2010 - C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Maya2010\bin\License.env

For Maya 2011 - C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Maya2010\bin\License.env

Linux:

/usr/autodesk/maya2010-x64/bin/License.env

/usr/autodesk/maya2011-x64/bin/License.env

Mac:

/Applications/Autodesk/maya2011/Maya.app/Contents/License.env

/Applications/Autodesk/maya2010/Maya.app/Contents/License.env

Sample content for Trial and Standalone:

MAYA_LICENSE=unlimited

MAYA_LICENSE_METHOD=standalone

Sample content for Network:

MAYA_LICENSE=unlimited

MAYA_LICENSE_METHOD=network

I have the same error. But I don't have a folder maya 2010.

In the license.env:

MAYA_LICENSE=unlimited

MAYA_LICENSE_METHOD=network.

But I have a folder Flexlm.

What can I try?

Is it that there is a period (.) at the end of the line for:

     MAYA_LICENSE_METHOD=network

If it is like this the period will cause trouble:

     MAYA_LICENSE_METHOD=network.

If so remove the period and you should be good.

I tried editing the license env. But when i tried saving it a message popped out " access denied"...?

guess deleting the period doesn't work

By default the License.env file is in the “C:\Program Files” folder. You will need Modify privileges to edit anything that is contained therein. An Administrator may need to perform this edit for you.

Your username or group could be added to the security settings for either “C:\Program Files” or “C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Maya20**” with Modify privileges. Depending on the security policies Modify privileges for “C:\Program Files” may not be allowed. Using “C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Maya20**” is a good alternative as it retains security for “C:\Program Files” while providing access to the Maya folder where there are files you may need to want to edit.

Just wanted to confirm that the problem might be related to the license override.

The license env. works fine.

I just can't see how to fix the override.

"License file override:

environment variable MAYA_ALT_EN is not set"

so how do you set it?

thanks for the update.

Can you upload your License.env file to this thread?

sorry it doesn't have a valid extension according to this site

Rename the extension to .txt, then post the .txt. I’ll request that the Administrators of the forum add the .env as an accepted extension.

hey cool!

if you notice, license file override is not mentioned in the text.

OK sorry about that, all looks OK in the .env file. Are there other error messages associated with this? Is there a .log file in this folder “C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\Adlm?” If so can you upload it? Had Maya been working previously?

Uninstall and reinstall. To prevent some external factor from interrupting something perform the reinstall from Diagnostic Mode.

I am having this exact same problem. I have installed from the Maya Hotfix 2 download. With Composite I get prompted with the activation screen, with Maya I get nothin apart from this.

License was not obtained

License method:

can't determine license method

Product choice:

can't determine product choice

License file override:

environement variable MAYA_ALT_EN is not set.

Please can someone from autodesk advise on how this can be fixed. I see the dates of some of these posts are weeks+ old and there is no solution?

If i start Maya from a command prompt, first setting the envioronment variables manually that are in the Maya\bin\License.env file I still get this error, although it has the method and product choice set, it still says License was not obtained.

Where should I be looking to correct this. Why is maya not pulling the license method and product choice from the License.env file ?

I have also tried restarting the Flexnet services, which were not started after I first installed ?

Please note I do not have a . at the end of anything in my License.env, I have started in Diagnostic mode on Windows 7 Ultimate, and installed with only the Flexnet services and the Windows installer service started. same problem. I have also restarted, reinstalled many times to try to get this to work.

Just incase anyone else has these problems. I now have mine working. The problem stemmed from having Maya 2009 already installed. MAYA_LOCATION environment variable was set to that of 2009. It was looking at the env vars in C:\program files\Autodesk\Maya2009\bin\License.env for the MAYA_LICENSE and MAYA_LICENSE_METHOD which is empty.

check the adlm log file in c:\Flexlm\  and you will see the path of 2009 mentioned

setting MAYA_LOCATION to my "C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Maya2011" fixes my problem. will possibly break 2009, but can run via a .bat that sets this var on startup perhaps.

Problem solved

Ok here is what I did

Go to Control panel on your computer

find system icon and activated it

go to advance and Environment Variables

scroll down to maya-location

tast edit

and the new variable value is

C:\Autodesk\maya2011

or what ever location your Maya 2011 is on.

hope this will help some.
