max 2011 won't install

Hello, I downloaded 3ds max 2011 from the autodesk site as a student and I can’t seem to install it on my laptop.

MY LAPTOP

Specs - windows 7 64 bit home premium, 17-720qm, 8gigs of ram, ati 5870

When I double click the exe (tried run as an admin too), for like a few milliseconds (blink of an eye), a pop up window appears then disappears then nothing happens.

I need help cause I need this program installed before Wednesday for my class.

Maybe the downloaded file is corrupt?

erm umm.. any ideas? I wanna say that maybe I don't have everything to install 3ds max with? All I'm using is the installer exe that I downloaded from the autodesk site. Do I need something else?

also, I decided that I want 3ds max 2010 instead since that is what my school is using. I'm not sure if I can take something from max 2010 and open it in max 2011.

Generally speaking, you can always open in later versions, but not the other way around.

thx. Ok, I think the problem is that installer.exe isn't the whole thing. Can someone link me to the actrual installation exe file? Its a big program so I suspect it to be around 200-800mb big not 500kb.

edit - thats 2010 64 bit plz

installer.exe is the installer for the Akamai download manager.

Check your Akamai folder for the 3dsMax setup files:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Akamai\

The 3ds max setup files are not located in that directory. All I see  are two apps, AdminTool and rswinui as well as some txt files, dlls, root.pem, .json files, and .dat files along with a cache folder.

Why are there not instructions on a proper install for this? Where is the freaken setup file? Why is nothing happening. Its past Wednesday and I'm not a happy camper right now. Not to mention the search is useless.

It shows that the Akamai folder is 2.16GB yet theres no more than 4mb worth of files that are actually in the folder. I ran the uninstaller and used the 503kb Akamai installer and now its showing the right folder size of 4mb. Seriously why the hell is this so complicated

My Akamai folder is showing only showing 4.29mb of files.... there is no point in me running the uninstaller. I did and ran the installer.exe and of course nothing. How come your folder has over 2 gigs of stuff?

edit - nvm, just forget it. I managed to find the exe file in the forums. thanks for nothing.

Use the links at the bottom of the page by clicking the link for those having trouble with the download. Links for the WinRAR self extracting executable and if additional files are required WinRAR archive files will be added to the bottom of the page.
