Material library 2014 - base image library fails to install

I am having issues trying to install 3DS Max 2014 on my Win8 x64. The installer stalls when installing the material library; it didn't progress even after 4 hours. The only thing I can do is kill the process. I tried running the installer via the content folder and there it stalls at "creating shortcuts". I don't even know why it wants to create shortcuts. How can this issue be solved? I tried installing it on a seperate HDD which I always do with large software as my OS drive is an SSD.
