License Error 1.5.-5

Have a network install of AC2K products, this problem concerns Land Desktop.

License manager reports that I have 7 valid licenses, only 2 are in use. Another user tries to start the program, gets an "not able to get a valid license,... error [1.5.-5]"

User is logged into the computer as Administrator; is able to PING the AC license server, and can see the AC license server through Network Places. Workstation is Win2K, AC license server is Win2K Server. WOrkstations are typically set up the same; installation of LD was the same. Happens on multiple workstations.

Search of forum messages and Knowledgebase doesn't find anything about this error message.

What do it mean?

Check your license manager log file.  Look for
the hostnames of the systems unable to obtain a license.  If the systems
are getting to the server there will be an entry which should shed some light on
the failure.

From the debug.log file:
==============================
12:00:08 (adskflex) IN: "40200ACDLAND_3_0F" Administrator@PW13829
12:07:01 (adskflex) UNSUPPORTED: "42200CIVSER_3_0F" (PORT_AT_HOST_PLUS ) Administrator@pw14198 (License server does not support this feature (-18,327))
==============================
As I read this:

1st line shows that workstation ID PW13829 got a license. There are similar messages from other workstations that did get a license.

2nd line shows that workstation PW14198 didn't get a license (that's my workstation). There are similar messages for other workstations that didn't get a license.

Hi Rick,

You are correct as far as who got a license
goes.  Note that the systems that ran were starting a product with a
feature code of 40200ACDLAND_3_0F which is
Land Development Release 3.  Now take a look at the systems not able to
run.  They are trying to run a product with a feature code of
42200CIVSER_3_0F which is Civil Series Release 3.  So, you appear to have
different software installed between the machines that work and the ones that do
not.  If you own Civil Series licenses, you need to authorize them for this
license server.  If you do not, uninstall the product from these
workstations and install LDD from the deployment used to install the systems
that work or a new deployment created for LDD.

So it would seem that I need to install the Civil Series software on the non-working workstation in order to use the Land software? Is there a specific order of dependency on which one I need to install first?

We have licenses for all AD products, BTW.

Thanks..Rick...

No, it appears thet you have Civil installed on the
systems that are not working as that is the license those systems are asking the
license manager for  The machines that are working are asking for an LDT
license.  So if you own network licenses for Civil, you need to get
authorization for it.  Multiple products require special licensing
procedures.  The instructions are located at

OK. Here's the status:

- I have combined the license files per TS65928 into one file, moving the old lic files to a different folder.
- Used license manager to re-spec the license file, and re-read the lic file.
- I did a stop/start the license server after combining the lic files
- Used license manager to run diags, report all is OK.
- reinstalled Land Desktop on the test workstation. Program still reports a 1.5.-5 error.

Debug log has these entries after starting Land Desktop on the test computer.
8:47:15 (adskflex) UNSUPPORTED: "42200CIVSER_3_0F" (PORT_AT_HOST_PLUS ) Administrator@pw14198 (License server does not support this feature (-18,327))

Your license file should have an increment line
similar to the following:

INCREMENT
size=3>42200CIVSER_3_0F
adskflex 1.000 7-dec-2002 3
\
    VENDOR_STRING=nfr:extendable SUPERSEDE DUP_GROUP=H
\
    ISSUED=7-aug-2002 ck=196 SN=3xx-xxxxxxxx
SIGN=741E4C402D22

The critical part of the above is
face="Times New Roman" size=3>42200CIVSER_3_0F. If you do not have an Increment
line with that feature name you will not run.  You will need to obtain an
authorization for Civil Series R3.  If it is there it is likely that the
authorization is broken due to editing mistakes corruption and you should obtain
new authorization and combine the new increment section into your license
file.

size=3>

When an
increment is recognized as good by the license manager you see a message like
the following when the feature "turns on" during startup:

19:40:29 (adskflex) Server started on paradise
for: 41100ACD_2002_0F

Adding a Civil Series license file did the trick.

I must have missed the part in the documentation that said "In order to use Land Desktop, you must also have a license for the Civil Series software."

Thanks for your help.
