Installing Stand-alone seat of AutoCad on Server to Produce DWF files

We wish to install a seat of AutoCAD on a server and then use a windows service linked to a SQL Server Database to produce DWFs of our homes and send the published DWFs to the requestee. What type of AutoCAD license does this installation need?

There will only be one instance of AutoCAD running on the server.

There is no license setup. Accessing AutoCAD on a server from another location is against the EULA.

AutoCAD has been configured to allow multiple sessions to run on one PC,
while using only a single license (it could be configured to use one license
per session).

Since these sessions are intended to be used only by the one person in front
of the PC, server installations are not permitted, since there's no way to
control how many users access it.

Thanks for asking. I'm sure there's another way to configure what you need;
ask your reseller.

Hi,

Look at Vault or better at Productstream to do this.

Thanks for all of the responses. I not sure I understand some of the concerns. If I so choose, I could set up one of my sessions of AutoCAD on my Production machine to handle these requests automatically. Why then is a server installation any different as only the service could run AutoCAD?

Because the EULA is very specific in its ambiguity. Ha.

Autodesk, can you respond to this question or direct me to your EULA passage that particularly addresses this question?

Okay! Where do I get (or find) the Eula for AutoCAD 2006/2007?

Hi,

3.2.4 Hosting or Third Party Use. You may not Install or Access, or
allow the Installation or Access of, the Software over the Internet,
including, without limitation, use in connection with a Web hosting or
similar service, or make the Software available to third parties via the
Internet on Your computer system or otherwise.

in your 2007 CD : (CD):\Bin\acadFeui\eula

AH thanks. The process I am describing does not allow installation or access to the software. Autodesk, if you feel otherwise, speak up!

The requestor specifies which model, model options and garage side that they wish to see, and logs this request via SQL Server.

On the "machine" running AutoCAD, a VB.Net application monitors the SQL Server requests, opens the appropriate drawings, produces a multi-sheet DWF, and emails the DWF to the requestor.

Is there a difference if the "machine" is a workstation or a server?

Yes. Only one user uses a workstation.

The problem is in the design, not which OS the PC uses. It's like the
difference between a printer shared on the network, and one accessible only
to one PC.

By making AutoCAD (or its work products) available to multiple users on a
network, even serially, you've violated the EULA. A system that let you
submit a DWG and plot it would be a similar violation, as is the use of
Citrix or Windows Terminal Services.

Okay then. I will simply request an additional Workstation to be placed in my office. I will put another standalone seat of AutoCAD on it and do my thing.

This seems incredibly stupid!

Okay. What if we install a network license on the server? Can we then run this automated process?

Ask your reseller; I don't know.

The general setup problem is making one copy of AutoCAD available to
multiple users. There must be a way to use it in a server.

I would say, so long as the usage doesn't exceed the number of licenses. Take a good long read of the EULA. Then when you come out of your coma...
