installing .net framework 4.0 installation aborted error 1603

I tried everything suggested to fix this and nothing worked. Can't get the software to install.

all updates installed

.net framework 4.5.1 installed

Folders have the correct permissions

Short file names are enabled (I think)

No "locked files" from programs running in the background

TEMP folders are empty

Corrupt AutoCAD files? Who knows.

Disk space good

Hello. Did you uninstall NET first? If you are failing on NET, uninstall it and let the program try to install it. If it still fails, uninstall NET again and grab the NET cleanup tool and uninstall NET again and retest.

http://blogs.msdn.com/b/astebner/archive/2008/08/28/8904493.aspx  - its awesome

If you STILL are having issues – comment out the Setup INI file.

To do this, you will need the complete installer files downloaded to your computer.

If you are running an “Install Now” these files will not be sufficient.

If you need the full download you can grab it here:

http://autodesk.creativevirtual15.com/autodesk/bot.html?isJSEnabled=1&businessArea=Root.Front%20Desk...

Once you have it, double-click to extract to c:\autodesk\ and if the installer appears at this point, cancel out of it.

Go into the c:\autodesk\ folder and go into your program specific folder. If you see an icon in here that says “Install Now” you are in the wrong folder, back up a level and delete the folder. If this part is confusing I would delete all the files in the C:\autodesk\ folder and then double click the downlado to re-extract. Then go into the folder.

  1. Find the Setup.ini file
  2. Open it
  3. Click Edit > Replace
  4. Find PREREQ
  5. Replace with #PREREQ
  6. Replace all
  7. Save the file
  8. Run the installer.

This will avoid installing the prerequisites. If they are already installed you won’t need to reinstall them anyway.
