Hi all,
Is possible to install the Autodesk License Server on any server that is accessible from the client? I.e. if I have a server with a public ip, can I use that for the license server and then my users can point to that server for their license using the IP address? I'd like to this with a computer that is not inside my network or VPN. As long as a server is pingable from a client, can that server host the license for the client?
Thanks,
Eric
Im my experiance this doesn't work. The server ports 2080 and 27000 would need to be publicly available as well and you clients would need to be able to resolve the server name or connect to a fully quialified domain name. The licnese server software was designed to only work for users on the same subnet and that's the only way it is supported .
It does work by IP address too but it has to be an IP address that LMTOOLS is detecting. Alot of time with publicly available servers there is an internally routable IP and an IP that external connections resolve to and LMTOOLS is only seeing the internal.
Making your license manager available to the public Internet IP is not only dangerous, but also violates the EULA. Essentially, anyone would be able to steal your licenses in real-time. You want to avoid this at all costs.
