installing Inventor Series 5

I am preparing to install Inventor Series 5.
We currently have 8 seats of MDT6 installed and use Flexlm.
My questions are:
Do I need to uninstall and re-install Flexlm?
Do I need to uninstall and re-install MDT6?

TIA
Jerry

Hi Jerry,

No, on both counts.

You will obviously need to merge the license file on the FLEXlm server though.

Mark,

Thanks for the info, this is the first time I'm responsible for the upgrade
.
You will obviously need to merge the license file on the FLEXlm
server though.

Can you elaborate on merging the license files.

Do I need to install Inventor on the server or can I just install it from
the CD at each of the clients.

Thanks again

Hi Jerry,

I was thinking a bit further on this. There might be an aspect of the license agreement that you
have to be careful with here.

The original version of MDT6 you have uses the original version of the FLEXlm license file. The
version you have with the Inventor series uses a new FLEXlm license file. Technically you have to
"dispose" of your original MDT license based on the license agreement, *but* I think this would only
apply if you have upgraded the MDT6 to the Inventor Series. In summary, if you have upgraded the
MDT6 to the Inventor series let me know and I can investigate.

Merging/combining the license file is best described at the following solution:

http://support.autodesk.com/getdoc.asp?id=TS65928

I am not sure on Inventor deployments so will need to check and get back to you on this, but please
let me know if you solve this in the mean time.

Thanks

I guess I don't know if we have upgraded or not.
We had MDT6 and when Adesk combined MDT and Inventor into Inventor Series,
we got an "upgrade" to Inventor Series

Hi,

having read this thread up to Jerry's message, here's the deal:

you will have to:

a) replace the old MDT6 licensefile under FlexLM with the new Inventor
Series licensefile
b) you will have to uninstall your MDT6 installations
c) create a new deployment tree using the Inventor Series MDT6 CD and
reinstall the workstations from there
d) Install Inventor from the CD selecting Network version when prompted

Explanation:

The original MDT 6, which you have "Cross Upgraded" to Inventor Series" uses
this product code in the Flex licensefile:

40900MDT_PP_6_0F

The Inventor Series only has one product code for both MDT6 and Inventor:

40900INVBUN_5_0F

When you have crossupgraded, you defacto have signed a licenseagreement
where you are obliged to remove the old MDT licenses from the licensepool
and replace them with the Inventor Series licenses.

The old installations of MDT6 won't find a license from the new licensefile
The idea with the Series is that you can use either ACAD2002, Mechanical 6
PP, MDT6 PP or Inventor (or Inv + ACAD together ON ONE WORKSTATION / SEAT.
and this will only take 1 license from the licensemanager (per seat).

Hope this was fuddled enough! Don't know if I would understad it myself but
this is how it is...

Cheers,

Hi Jerry,

Then it sounds like you have upgraded, therefore you need to replace your existing MDT6 license with
the new license for the Inventor series. This will let you run both MDT6 and Inventor.

Also Petri has given a good explanation of a lot of this.

Let me know if you still have any questions.

Thank you everyone for all the info.
I will be performing the upgrade this week, so if you don't hear from me,
all went well.

Thanks again
Jerry
