Error [1.5-18] - typical issue but unusual problem

I have installed a new license file for Revit Architecture Suite 2009 and placed it in a new server (this is the first time this server will be used with LMtools). I used the updated LMtools from the disk (11.4.100.0). I have installed the software to our 4 client computers through network deployment and everything is running smoothly.

Here is the problem:

The first client computer I installed RevitArch Suite 2009 worked well – it was able to get a license from the new server. But the other three had an ERROR [1.5.-18]

Here is my Log File message:

Any thought on this? I already checked the other posted issues in this discussion group about ERROR [1.5.-18] but my problem is different from theirs - One client computer worked but the rest did not.

Please advice.

Thank you in advance.

How many licenses of Revit do you have? Also, have you tried closing the one that works, then trying the others?

Hi Travis,

We have 4 licenses for Revit.

And yes I have tried closing the one that works and tried the others but unfortunately it failed to get licenses and the same error ERROR [1.5-18].

I even get as far as returning the license back from the computer that works. Then tried firing up revit from the 3 other computers...but again failed.

It's really wierd. All computers used the same network deployment. Same Server name. There is nothing much I can think of any possible problem.

Please, please help!

Interesting. There is nothing in your debug log that shows denial. I would set a system environment variable to point to your license server.

ADSKFLEX_LICENSE_FILE = @SERVERNAME

Is it possible that you have another license manager out there somewhere?

On a PC having issues, take a look at the registry key "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\FLEXlm License Manager\ADSKFLEX_LICENSE_FILE" to see if there are any unusual entries for server names or paths.

I already tried setting a system environment with this value:

ADSKFLEX_LICENSE_FILE = @RFAVANAS

where RFAVANAS is our server for Revit Suite.

Just to add though, We have ACAD06 running in these 4 computers using a different server. We have a new server machine (where I placed the LMtools for revit suite) and we'd thought that making this new server as the dedicated server for just revit architecture. Hope this helps.

Hi mlapinski,

I did what you advised and here's what I got:

ADSKFLEX_LICENSE_FILE - Value data: C:\Program files\AutoCAD 2006

Oh just to let you know that we also have ACAD06 running in these 4 computers using a different server. We have another server ...a new one (where I placed the LMtools for revit suite) and we'd thought that making this new server as the dedicated server for just revit architecture. FYI

forgot to tell you that setting a system environment failed as well. Same ol' error [1.5,-18]

Are both of your Flex servers utilizing the same version of 11.4.100?

And what is the value from the computer that successfully pulls a license of Revit?

The successful computer gets this value:

C:\Program Files\Revit Architecture 2009\Program

No, only the new server (dedicated revit license server) has the new version 11.4.100. Do you think having Flex servers with different versions would be an issue?

Is the FlexLM server on the LAN or far away? This is a stretch, but you could try setting the system variable "FLEXLM_TIMEOUT". See this for more info.

The Flex is on the LAN.

I'll give the TIMEOUT a try first...let you know in a while.

Definitely appears that your other machines are pointing towards your other license server. I highly recommend only having one licnese manager.

Hi Travis,

So you mean having one license manager - like getting my new Revit license file from the new server and transferring and appending it to our old server with the other licenses? Would that also mean that I have to update the old server's Flexlm to the latest version 11.4.100?

No, I mean migrating your old license to your new license server and getting rid of the other one altogether. There really isn't any reason for you to have more than one Autodesk License Server, serving different licenses, all using different versions. It only causes problems like the one you are experiencing and many others.

Although, it would probably be easier to just get new 2009 license files for your old license manager, than vice versa. In that case, yes you would need to upgrade to at least 11.4.1

Yes. To use the new 2009 package license on your old Flex server would require an update to 11.4.100. You'll also need to request a new 2009 license file from Autodesk for your old server before it can be appended. Having one Flex server should minimize your troubles.

Guys thank you for your advice! I will definitely do as what you have said. Well to be honest I actually thought of that at first. I just wondered that having a separate & dedicated license manager for Revit would be nice (thinking that if problems come to ye old server ye new one would still be intact...lame huh!). Really apprciated it guys...

Thanks TravisNave & mlapinski! Have a nice weekend!

Felix
