deleting key in registry

I am trying to install MDT on a users machine and it keeps setting the path to the wrong directories. I was told I need to delete the "Autodesk" folder in the registry but it won't let me do it. It says error while trying to delete. Any ideas?

TIA

Collin

What OS is this? If it's WinNT/2k/xp and it's in the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
branch then you need to be logged on as administrator. Also, you need to be
logged on as administrator when installing autocad on these OSes.

I am running win2k pro and it is under HKEY_CURRENT_USER. The user has admin settings and it is still not allowing us to delete it. Any other ideas?

Thanks,

Collin

Collin,

Try deleting everything under the Autodesk key and leaving the Autodesk key
empty. I don't have access to a win2k box here at work so I can't verify
the permission settings on the Autodesk key.

I tried to delete the sub folders and I expanded it all the way down and even tried to delete the lowest folder in the tree but could not.

What kind of permission are set on those keys. I know you can check (and
change) this with regedit in XP, but in Win2k I think you need to use
regedt32.

Are you getting an "access denied" or "permission denied" error message?

Hmmm...

Have you tried booting in Win2k "VGA Mode"? It could be that an AutoCAD
component is always holding the key open, preventing it from being deleted.
Usually a normal reboot would take care of this. It's also possible that
part of the registry could be corrupt.

I believe the current logged in user, not just administrators, always have
"Full Control" over HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\*. If not, someone must
have changed the default permissions setup by Win2k.

What paths keep being set incorrectly? If the desktop icon is pointing to
the wrong location, then your install path should be updated in
\\server\mdtclientinstall\image\appsetup.inf. If you are you talking
about paths in the AutoCAD Support file search path, then I suspect an
AutoCAD profile issue. If you use a .ARG file to manage profiles, make
sure all of the paths in it are correct to begin with.
