Creating Deployments of Autodesk Maya Education Suite 2011 32-bit

Hi,

I have a classroom full of 32-bit Windows machines that have Maya 2011 already installed. We recently got the whole Education Suite (with Mudbox, SoftImage, etc.) and we want to create a deployment of these "extras". We don't want to re-install Maya if it can be avoided. I should mention that the classrrom is offline (no internet access). We have a local network and a network licesnse.

I watched this video, and read the PDF instruction manual, and it looks simple enough to create a deployment.  However, when I pop in the intstallation DVD, I'm never given the option to create a deployment. I've done a lot of internet searching and haven't found a solution for this. We don't want to install it on each machine with the disc.

Thanks in advance!

Take a look at this thread for deployment http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/Installation-Licensing/Mudbox-2011-and-MotionBuilder-2011-silent-insta...

Thank you!

That might be helpful for Mudbox... but what about SoftImage and 3D Studio Max?

You can create automated deployment image from the separate installers for Maya / 3ds Max / Softimage. You can download the trial  installers for3ds Max from http://usa.autodesk.com/3ds-max/trial/?nd=1 which is same as full installer- and use your Education suites Serial number and Product key to create the deployment.

For Softimage 2011 SP 1

Before trying to create the deployments, I installed MudBox and the other extras and installed them from the DVD. None of them run due to a licensing problem, although Maya 2011 works.

Here is the licensing error: "A valid license could not be obtained by the network license manager"

This is followed immediately by another error: "License not obtained. Tried Mudbox 2011 (498C1 2011.0.0.F), error 20 License method: set by installer to 'network' License file override: environment variable MUDBOX_ACT_EN is not set"

It's not just Mudbox, the other extras don't open either, with similar errors.

So I read some other forum threads about this and I downloaded Maya 2011 Hotfix 3 which does indeed give me the option of creating a deployment.

However, do I have to uninstall everything in order to use the Hotfix installers?  Is there an uninstaller somewhere I'm missing?

Our license server is running Windows XP Professional 32-bit. I tried installing SAMLite - we've been running Flex LM version 11.5 (lmgrad) and 11.6 (lmutil). I have a floating license file obtained from Maya, too.  Should Sam Report light replace Flex LM tools? I'm hestitant to uninstall our license server software in order to install newer versions because right now Maya 2011 works and I don't want to interupt the users.

Mudbox will look for the license in the following folder on the client machine, check to see if they are pointing to the correct license server.
C:\Flexlm folder there should be mudbox.lic
C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Mudbox2011\LicPath.lic
You can also specify the license server environment as described in this technical solution http://usa.autodesk.com/getdoc/id=TS1065268

It is best to have the latest Maya 2011 installed, you can download Maya 2011 SP1 from http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/ps/dl/index?siteID=123112&id=2334435&linkID=9242259#section1
This is a Full Maya installer, so you will need to uninstall the older 2011 from your machine.

SAMreport-Lite is to help you track network license usage, install if you want to track your network license usage http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/index?siteID=123112&id=2538394&linkID=9240618
