Completely remove ADMS 2008

Anyone know how to completely remove ADMS 2008 from a workstation? I'm trying to install Inventor 2009's Content Center (and ADMS 2009) on a workstation using the installation DVD, but the options to install those two programs are grayed out. A message below each option says "A previous version of Autodesk Data Management Server (ADMS) has been detected on this computer, so ADMS 2009 will not be installed."

The previous version of ADMS on the machine was ADMS 2008, but I uninstalled it using the Window's Control Panel. I also uninstalled Microsoft SQL Server. Something must be lingering that's messing up the install. Is there a way to clean this off the PC without messing up other Autodesk programs that are installed?

Thanks

It's most likely in the registry. If you've fully uninstalled both the ADMS and SQL, you might go into regedit and make sure those keys are also gone from HKLM. Good luck.

Thanks for the reply. I've tried deleting every registry key in the HKLM that looks like it could be related to ADMS, Vault, and SQL Server. I've also done the same thing to folders in "C:Program Files" as well as in "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users". It still won't let me install ADMS 2009. There's got to be some way to get this installed.

Might check that the actual databases have been deleted as well and take another peek in Add/Remove to be sure that everything is gone. Surgical removal of ADMS is always fun. Done it a million times.

Actually, right after I uninstalled ADMS 2008, I noticed that it was still listed in Add/Remove. I clicked "Remove" another time. It said something like the program no longer existed, click OK to remove it from the Add/Remove list. I clicked OK, so it does not appear in the list anymore.

So how do you make sure that the actual databases have been deleted? I'm not sure where else to look.

Have you also checked that the Microsoft SQL Server folder is cleared in the C:\Program Files\ location?

Microsoft has a "forced uninstall" program you can try..  it's always
been able to take care of programs that the control panel either can't
remove or has missed part of a program...

It's called "Windows Install Clean up".  you can get it from the
microsoft website.

Yes, it's gone. I manually deleted that folder.

I remember I had to (re)move the contents of this
folder before I was able to install ADMS2010:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application
Data\Autodesk\VaultServer\FileStore

Thanks everyone for the tips! I ended using that Windows Installer Cleanup Utility from Microsoft. It worked like a charm. After running it, I was able to install the 2009 Content Center and ADMS.

Thanks!

You still have an instance of AUTODESKVAULT lingering
somewhere on your sysyem Uninstalling SQL Server does not uninstall the
instance.
