Civil 3D 2011 won't authorize

I successfully installed C3D 2011 stand alone to my computer.  However when I attempt to license it the LMU will not respond, it just hangs and says "LMU(Not Responding)" in a tiny window.  I had to restart my computer to kill it.  Suggestions?  Thanks.

Try logging in as a administrator of the machine or as another user (with administrative privileges) and try again.

 

Else, you may have to perform a clean install of AutoCAD Civil 3D 2011 as per the link below:

So I tried both and no success. It runs but will not authorize.  I disabled all security software, windows firewalls etc and it still will not work.  Suggestions?  Is there a way to get an auth. code and manually enter it?  Thanks.

I would also like to know whether the "Activate" button is greyed out or whther the application hangs after this button from within the application is pressed.
