Civil 3D 2011 fails to install

Hello all,

I am having trouble installing C3D 2011.  I get the following error message.

An errror occurred during the installation of assembly 'policy.1.1.FARO.LS,version="1.1.406.58",type="win32-policy",processorArchtecture="x86",publicKeyToken="1d23f5635ba800ab"'. Please refer to Help and Support for more information.

First I have installed in successfully on another machine in the office.  This is a stand alone install.  On research so far, I have

A)  looked at TS15149656 (which says turn off Norton AV during install).  I have PC Tools Spyware Doctor w/ AV and it is already turned off.

B)  Removed all of the dot net versions and reinstalled dot net using Microsoft tools and verified registry size limit.

 see http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/Installation-Licensing/Autocad-2011-Installation-trouble-error-1603/m-...

 and see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923100/en-us

C)  Ran Microsoft Directx web installer to make sure i have the latest version.

Install logs:

Do you have any other version of FARO LS installed; please check in add/remove program

if not

Please try to install as true administrator in Diagnostics mode.

http://usa.autodesk.com/getdoc/id=TS1054234

If this doesnt work, there should be a verbose log with %temp% directoy which would give more details on this error

please post the error parts here.

Hi Hashim,

I had a previously installation of C3d 2011 on my machine that had some issues due to a computer cleanup / registry cleaner program (Registry Mechanic) (not a good thing,it cleaned too much).  Anyway, I saw a post somewhere about uninstalling Faro LS if it was listed in Add/Remove Programs.  It was not.

I found a post at another site (not cad related) with the same issue.  Even though it was not installed, there is a folder in C:\Windows\WinSxS called x86_FARO.LS , just needed to delete that folder and C3D installed fine.

BTW, what is FARO LS for?

Regards,

Hi All;

We have recently had similair reports of this issue/error that needed a bit more troubleshooting to resolve. In addition to the

C:\Windows\WinSxS\x86_FARO.LS_1d23f5635ba800ab... folder you may also have rename the below files/folders to work around this issue

C:\WINDOWS\WinSxS\Policies\x86_policy.1.1.FARO.LS_1d23f5635ba800ab_x-ww...

C:\WINDOWS\WinSxS\Manifests\x86_FARO.LS_1d23f5635ba800ab_1.1.406.58_x-ww_a175a29b.cat
C:\WINDOWS\WinSxS\Manifests\x86_FARO.LS_1d23f5635ba800ab_1.1.406.58_x-ww_a175a29b.Manifest

Please try to rename the above files and try the installation again
