Civil 3D 2009 installation problems

I am trying to load Civil 3D 2009 and when I do the .exe file that is downloaded is for Civil 3D Autocad light. It says its civil 3D, buts its only a light version of autocad. Collegues of mine loaded the program the same way I did with no problems.

What is actually happening is that the civil 3d .exe file is taking me to "Open Civil 3D as Autocad". The correct .exe file is not loading in the installation

Hello wvu9494,
Try creating a shortcut with the following in the Target field : (you'll
have to fix the exact path to the Acad.exe & AecBase.dbx files.

"C:\Program Files\Autodesk\AutoCAD Civil 3D 2011\acad.exe" /ld "C:\Program
Files\Autodesk\AutoCAD Civil 3D 2011\AecBase.dbx" /p "<>"

This launches the Acad.exe file loading the Civil3D extensions and the default
Imperial workspace (substitute <> for metric).

When the product is installed, if the Imperial & Metric workspace checkboxes
are turned off you won't get the correct shortcuts.

I am using version 2009 and the civil 3d folder is directly under the Program files folder so I had to modify it a little. I used the target below and still ended up with just plain autocad when I hit the shortcut. If I go into the folder and click on the .exe file it takes me to the same place.

"C:\Program Files\AutoCAD Civil 3D 2009\acad.exe" /ld "C:\Program Files\AutoCAD Civil 3D 2009\AecBase.dbx" /p ">"

Hello wvu9494,
Just to cover the basics incase something was missed. Once you open Civil3D,
is Civil3D the active workspace?

No, when I open Civil 3D I get put into a Cadd Lite type workspace (2D Drafting and Annotation is the workspace). When I open 3D and it asks me for the workspace I want, Civil 3D is not an option.

I am having a recurinng problem of when I load Civil 3D it will work for a day and then the following day I will go to load a drawing and the above accurce will occur and I wont be able to get into Civil 3D. I have unistalled and reinstalled several times with this happening each time. Others in my group have not had this problem with the installation.

Hi,

AutoCAD Civil 3D 2009 has two startup shortcuts. If you need the AutoCAD Civil 3D user interface make sure you are using the "AutoCAD Civil 3D 2009" shortcut. Both shortcuts launch the same acad.exe but differ in their command line options. A description of the two startup shortcuts follows:

The "AutoCAD Civil 3D 2009" shortcut has command line options that load an AutoCAD Profile called <<Unnamed Profile>> and the AecBase.dbx file for Civil 3D. The Target and these command line options for this shortcut are: "C:\Program Files\AutoCAD Civil 3D 2009\acad.exe" /ld "C:\Program Files\AutoCAD Civil 3D 2009\AecBase.dbx" /p "<<Unnamed Profile>>".

The "AutoCAD Civil 3D 2009 as AutoCAD" shortcut launches full AutoCAD 2009 without the AutoCAD Civil 3D 2009 code. Its only command line option is to load an AutoCAD Profile named "AutoCAD". The target for this shortcut is: "C:\Program Files\AutoCAD Civil 3D 2009\acad.exe" /p "AutoCAD".

Try launching from the Start menu > All Programs > Autodesk > AutoCAD Civil 3D 2009 > AutoCAD Civil 3D 2009. These startup shortcuts are less likely to have been modified and shortcuts that may not be on the desktop should be listed here.

How you start AutoCAD Civil 3D or how you may have modified these targets may cause AutoCAD Civil 3D to load with the AutoCAD Profile of the last use. You may need to go into Options (you can always get here by typing "options" at the command line), choose the Profiles tab, select the <<Unnamed Profile>>, and click the Set Current button. Click OK to exit Options. As long as the <<Unnamed Profile>> has not been changed the AutoCAD Civil 3D user interface should load.

You may need to recreate the "AutoCAD Civil 3D 2009" shortcut. Hopefully this gives you the required information to solve the issue you are having and if necessary recreate this shortcut.

Thanks for the info. My shortcut settings are how you listed and the "unnamed profile" is set current. I still get just Autocad 2009 to load. I also tried going through the start menu and just clicking on the executable file with the same result.

The <<unnamed profile>> must not be configured for Civil 3D anymore. At this point it is probably best to delete the user files and Registry entry then let the Installer rebuild them. You will find the instructions for this here:

We found that you can type "menu" in the command line then browse to the "civil.cui".  Once that loads all seems to be good.  It was a lot easier than deleting folders and editing the registry.
