Citrix Installation - A valid license could not be obtained

Hi,

Perhaps someone can help me out here, I have been trying to install AutoCAD Map 3D 2011 on Citrix and have followed the steps outlined in the setup guide http://images.autodesk.com/adsk/files/autocad_map_3d_citrix_ready_installation_and_setup_guide.pdf

The FlexLM license server has a valid license file, the service is started and shows 1 licence available. However when we start up AutoCAD we are prompted for the name of the license server. I enter the name of the server and we are presented with the following error:

"A valid license could not be obtained by the network license manager."

After googling I have tried increasing the timeout for FlexLM but still no joy.

Does anyone have any thoughts on what might be causing this to happen?

Thanks,

Chris

Log into your subscription site and log it in as a support request. You should get a faster respond for Doug "Citrix guru" from there faster than you will in here.

Hi Chris,

First off is the Autodesk network license manager installed on a computer with the Citrix license manager? If so make the change recommended in this Technical Solution. My bet is that Citrix is using port 27000 for the Master Daemon. If so use 27001 in the Autodesk license file. Make sure you check what port Citrix was configured for first. You can use any port in the range of 27000 through 27009 that is not already used by a Master Daemon for another vendor.

Next make sure the firewall is not blocking these ports

    Citrix: 7279

    Autodesk: 2080

    Master Daemons: 27000-27009

Let us know how it works out and we can look at your license configuration in more detail. Make sure you do not post a license file and do not post a serial number.

Douglas, Thanks for the reply.

AutoCAD Network License Manager is installed, the service is running and reports that it has one license to serve. I have copy/pasted the some of the log file and server status below. I have also attached a screenshot of LMTools.exe showing license available. We have tried changing the port for the flexlm license manager but the problem persists. Our firewall should not be blocking FlexLM as Autocad/FlexLM are on the same machine. The Citrix license manager is on a seperate machine.

Thanks for any advice you can give on what to try next.

The license server appears to be in good order. Can you provide a few things from the XenApp server with Map 3D? I’d like to see the .log files from this folder “C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Autodesk\Adlm” and screen shots of the error message when starting Map 3D 2011.

Try setting the ADSKFLEX_LICENSE_FILE system variable in Windows. This variable has precedence over the Windows Registry and the licpath.lic file. We often use it for troubleshooting and it is used with Distributed license servers. You will find instructions in this Technical Solution.

Can you ping ABZ-CTXP03. Since you have the license server and the client on the same computer you might even try @127.0.0.1 in the ADSKFLEX_LICENSE_FILE system variable especially if name resolution is not working for ABZ-CTXP03.

When you increased the timeout for the license client did you specify the FLEXLM_TIMEOUT variable in windows? If not you can review this Technical Solution. Because the license server and client are on the same computer you should not need this configuration.

Do you have IPv6 implemented? If so search this forum and you will find many threads with solutions.

Note: The use of AutoCAD Map 3D on Citrix XenApp requires a special license agreement. Make sure you have purchased that license or are using a NFR provided by a value added reseller or the Autodesk sales team.

I think Doug hit in on the head when he mentioned the localhost 127.0.0.1.  If your machine is running IPv6 and the application and NLM are on the same box, then your localhost will come back as :1 instead of the 127.0.0.1 loopback.  You might want to make a double entry in your HOSTS file to correct it.  Comment out the local host for IPv6 and replace it with a 127.0.0.1 as well as your LAN IP address for the hostname of the machine.  If you can ping your machine or local host and it returns an IPv4 address, you should be able to launch your Autodesk product locally.  Now whether or not you are within your license rights in this situation is another argument.  Smiley Wink

Doug,

I need to install the license manager for a server that will have a citrix license file.  I've looked high and low and do not see where it tells me where the Citrix license manager is.  Is there such a thing, or is it the normal LMTOOLS on the 'CD'?

I see where the ports are an issue and I will address that.

Can you point me to the correct License Manager?  Can I use the one on the 2014 'CD'?

Tim

Yeah, just use the typical LMTOOLS.  There is not a special one for Citrix.  There used to be special licensing for prior products.  That's probably what you are thinking.

For a Quick-Start Guide on configuring the Autodesk License Manager, please see my post for further information:
