Check out licenses remotely

Our license server has a static IP and is accessible over the internet. Is there a way to direct my laptop to see the license file over the internet? When I "browse" to the correct destination of the license server or license file, Autocad can not find the license file. I get an error indicating that the DNS can not identify the address. I am running Win 2000 Profesional with a NT 4 server. I even added it to the "hosts" file, but I still can notseem to make it find the file. I use my laptop docked into our network as my main work station, when at the office, but I often need to work at home as well. We are also trying to have several employees working at home full time. We would like to allow them to check out licenses for ACAD 2002. All of our other network licenses can be checked out over the internet, but we can't seem to figure out this one. Any ideas ??

you'll have to check the ports available at work. Last I heard, FlexLM has
to be able to to ping in both directions by IP and name. This could cause
the problem.

Part of the problem is that autodesk doesn't officially support WAN access,
so it's hard to get good clear information. Keep searching, I think there
are some older posts that ahd step by step solutions.

Good luck!

They did just legitimize WAN use though didn't they? Isn't that the press
release I read recently, accounting for a larger fee for network licensed
versions?

Hi,

a few things could cause this:

a) your Name resolution isn't working. Try adding an environmentvariable to
your OS:

ADSKFLEX_LICENSE_FILE

give it a value that reflects the IP-address of the licenseserver

b) you are accessing the network through a firewall (or have one on your pc.
Check the the ports:

27000
2080

are both open.
