Changing License Server Name

I am changing the name of the server which hosts the FlexLM for our network license of AutoCAD 2006. Can I simply change the name of the server in the license file or do I have to get a new license file? Thanks.

You need a new license file.

Hi,

I always thought that the license was only bound to the MAC-address? There was even a KB article for this scenario when Flex first came with AutoCAD:

http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/ps/item?siteID=123112&id=2886477&linkID=9240617

Please correct me if I'm wrong!

You're right from from what I can see in the KB and this one.

So in fact:

>>file or do I have to get a new license file?

Change away. Safest is to use the LMTOOLS to check exactly how Flex sees the name: System Settings --> Computer/Host name

If you simply change the name, the NLM will fail. You will need to modify your license .lic file and replace the hostname listed there with the following special name: this_host

That should keep your NLM running.

This is actually the safest thing to use in most cases unless you have
specialized requirements. It avoids you from a number of possible problems.
Not too many do this though.
