Change the installed CD Key

We recently did a mass installation for an educational institution. Rather than install our software x number of times, we installed it into one computer and cloned that hard disk. With the majority of software, we have managed to change the CD Key via registry and activate the software.

However, we are having trouble with AutoCad 2006 and AutoCad Architectural. We tried changing the value in the registry but the old CD Key still shows up when trying to activate. Anyone know exactly how to change the CD Keys used during installation?

The right way to do this, I think, is to get a multiseat standalone license:
one serial number for multiple seats.

There are intentional blocks against cloning hard disks. There may be
workarounds to allow this in certain situations; contact Support (not Auth
Codes).

Unfortunately purchasing dept bought standalone copies, thus leading to our current headache. And since the installation is already done, we were hoping for an easy solution other than having to reinstall everything.

We've already contacted Autodesk support but we still have not heard from them. The local support just told me to reinstall everything (so helpful).

Any help would be appreciated. Location of the CD Key in registry or some license file, some code we forgot to tweak in registry, etc.

Contact your educational reseller. There's a chance they can get your
license switched to a multi-seat stand-alone using the SN that your
installation used, which *may* allow the use of the same installation key.

You can't clone a stand-alone installation of the AutoCAD software because the serial number is compiled into a file during installation. Therefore it doesn't matter if you change the serial number in the registry.

You will have to uninstall and reinstall the product to get it activated. Sounds like you should have purchased a multi-seat stand-alone or a network version instead.

Hello,
I suggest you follow John Schmidt's advice. Call your reseller and have them combine all the serial numbers under the one that was installed and have it changed to a multiseat standalone.

If we can not install a series of workstation in stand alone with the same
CD an then authorize that with different numbers, I don't realy understand
why network deployment allow to do a deployment for a stand alone type.

We where using that option to install lot of workstation and entering the
same authorization code, as long as we bought the right number of stand
alone seat. We didn,t figure how we can use otherway a deployment for a
stand alone.

It is for "multiseat standalone license" as Cy said, not standalone license.

The serial number you have determines what kind of license you have:
network, standalone, or multi-seat standalone. You have to install your
software in the same way you purchased it.

You can't use the same auth code for more than one seat. Your reseller
should be helping you with this purchase decision.
