Cannot activate autocad architecture 2010

I have registered the product and been given an activation code but I can't figure out how to enter the code.  Nothing is coming up when I open the product to tell me where to enter the information, and as I've been through this process a couple of times (but gotten a message saying the code was invalid) it's possible it's already activated.  Now I have an email telling me that I should have a file attached to it but the file isn't there.  it says to copy text to a text editor and save it, but what happens next? how does that activate the product?  Why is this so complicated?

When you launch AutoCAD Architecture 2010, does it just run without any warnings? If so, then it is activated.  Otherwise, the first thing it should ask you is to activate the product.
