Can't create plot files?

We cannot create plot files on our server only on local machine. Anyone
seen this before or have thoughts? We have LDT 3.0 on win2k and 98, nt4 SP6
server.

Sounds like a permissions issue on the server. Without more information I
would recommend checking to make sure you can write long file names to the
server, there are no spaces in the pathname and that everyone has read/write
access to the directory.

Not a permissions issue. IT setup this server so everyone has full access
(read/write), can have long file names (even without long file names
involved it still will not write file).

What exactly happens when you try to create the file on the server? Do all
machines on your network have this problem? Have you tried to create a plot
file to another workstation instead of your server?

file size of 0 is created. cannot create file to other workstations. had to
add printer with write to file to print to local drive, cannot just click
plot to file. when printing across the network, while using the printer
setup with write to file, a dialog asking for file name will popup, then
print the file to local machine. all win2k machines have the same problem

Bob, what driver are you using? I plot to file just fine from my Windows
2000 workstations and it makes no difference if the file is local or
networked. So, I suspect either a rights restriction that has been
overlooked or perhaps a server based virus protection system blocking our
file write. Since the file is created but is empty I suspect the latter
more.

What protocol are you using? Are you using Microsoft Networking or Novell?
If memory serves, AutoCAD likes TCP/IP for network plotting, licenses, etc.
That's not always on by default in Netware. Check with the IT people again.
We are fond of blaming the operator, but IT people make mistakes too.

We are using HP's drivers for our 800 and 650c designjets. We were able to
create plot files fine in r14, but not since the installation of LDT3. Our
win98 machines have no problem plotting to the server, just win2k machines.
We are using TCP/IP for network plotting, licenses.

I tried the HP driver for your device and it wrote a plot file to a server
just fine from a W2K workstation. Your problem really looks like an
authentication problem or virus software interference. You may want to ask
your IT department to monitor file I/O activity during an attempt. That is
likely to tell you why an empty file was created.
