C-Dilla of AutoCAD 2000i crashes peer to peer networks !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have installed a little peer to peer network like this:

1 computer running Windows 2000 sp1, Mechanical Desktop 5 sp2 and Inventor 3

1 computer running Windows 98 Second Edition and AutoCAD Mechanical 2000i
sp2

1 computer running Windows 95 and AutoCAD LT 97

The problem is this:

The network works well but when I launch any application (Word, Excel,
AutoCAD) on one computer and try to open a file located on a machine that is
running a C-Dilla based application I receive the message: "The requested
file is no more present or the network connection is no more disposable",
then the 2 computers crash and I have to reboot both systems.

Nothing of this happens if I open a file that is located on a machine that
is not running any C-Dilla based application.

Does anyone knows more about this very serious problem ?

Thank you and sorry for my english.

Ciao Pierpaolo,

European Product Support have received several reports of this behaviour
recently. I am currently tracking the issue and working with development to
ascertain the cause. I'm sorry I don't have a workaround at present. Please
bear with us.

Hi, Pierpaolo,

I'm sorry not to be able to help - but I have similar experiences with
C-Dilla.

On Win2000 I use straight Acad2000i with C_Dilla and it works - first.
When I open TaskManager, I see "CDNTSERVICE.EXE" (or similar - the
C-Dilla Service is ment) and "CDxx64.EXE" (another part of C-Dilla).

When Acad2000i is running, and I then run a DOS-based program (inside
virtual DOS-box), the machine freezes, and the speaker is "singing"
(beep-beep-beep....).

At the TaskManager there is a new entry:
ntvdm (NT virtual DOS machine - the DOS box)
wow.exe (WindowOnWindow - emulation for 16-Bit window code)
CDxx16.exe (another C-Dilla part that seems to cause the crash)

It seems, that C-Dilla system uses incompatible, old 16 bit DOS/WIN code;
may be, this same reason causes your mysterious failures ... ?

If I start them in reverse order (DOS-based program first), everything is
fine.

This behaviour could be constantly reproduced on my machine !

Greetings and I hope, someone could help you (and me)

I also have this problem with a Windows 2000 and Windows NT machine in a
peer-to-peer network.

I have the same problem as Pierpaolo but not as you

So far a DOS box seems to work fine for me if opened before or after A2ki.
Perhaps there is something else happening? Is it a **program** running in a
DOS box that stops A2ki or is a command-prompt window alone sufficient?

Do you have any more details about what triggers this problem? I'm
suffering from the same symptoms as Pierpaolo but cannot repeatedly
reproduce the fault.

In my case the problem also seems to be associated with one machine opening
files shared from another whilst A2ki is open on the machine that is hosting
the file shares. - but not always....

Particularly problematic are the occasions when my Windows 2000 laptop
machine is synchronising (for offline use) the shares on my Windows NT
desktop. (The laptop was previously set to do this whenever it was idle).

Hi, Simon,

this process happens :

Sometimes I use good, old Norton Commander, that runs in a DOS box.

When I start the NC/DOS first, Acad+C-Dilla crashes with 16Bit-conflicts,
if I start Acad first, everything works well ...

I use similar system configuration win Win98SE, NT40 and Win2000 -
never had any compatibility problems with DOS box software (the DOS box
is encapsulated from the rest of the system - this is the sense of DOS box)

It seems, that C-Dilla is partially programmed with 16-Bit DOS/WIN code,
and this is the reasons for my crashes ...

What I wanted, is to give you some hints about C-Dilla - nobody could
estimate
the further side-effects of that 16-BIT problem of C-Dilla. For my machine,
it crashes
with any other open DOS box, for other machines ... ???

Many Greetings
Torsten Moses
