Hi,
I'm using a Licence-Server with two Licences of Maya 2011 Entertainment-Suite. The server runs on Win7, the clients are Mac OS X 64. I've "borrowed" a licence for my Laptop. Maya starts without problems without the licenceserver, but I can't use MentalRay or the simulations.
Then I tried to use these features with connection to the lic-server. It works fine.
So it seems, that the borrow process doesn't transfer the MentalRay or the Simulation Licences? How I can get them, too?
Thanks
Helge

Please try

Have done this:
1. Borrowed licence
2. With still connected to lic-server renderer a frame with MentalRay
3. Used a nCloth simulation file
4. Disconnected lic-server, Maya still running => Alle features work
5. Restart Maya, all features are gone (Lic-Error)
Any idea?
Thanks

Can you try to user the features and then borrow the license.
Same problem. After restarting Maya it tries to connect to the lic-server for the features.
is this behavior only on mac or on windows too ?
on both Macs.
Can't run Maya on the same PC as the lic-server, so I can't test.
BTW I use Maya 2011 with Service Pack 1
Thanks

It could be an issue related to Mac. We will have to do some tests to verify this.
Sorry 😞
Thanks, I hope you will find the issue.
I travel with my MacPro a lot and can't use MentalRay or the simulations on tour.

I have tested the documented method on mac, it seems to work. (I know it is not obvious from GUI.)

To borrow a Maya license (Mac OS X or Linux)
1 Open a shell (Linux) or Terminal (Mac OS X) window.
2 Execute the following command: lmutil lmborrow adskflex enddate
[time]
where enddate is the date you will return the license, formatted as follows:
dd-mmm-yyyy. The time argument is optional, but is specified in 24-hour
format (hh:mm).
For example: lmutil lmborrow adskflex 14-oct-2010 [14:00] borrows
a license until October 14, 2010 at 2:00 pm.
3 Launch Maya.
This borrows a Maya license from the server.
4 Use any sub-features of Maya (such as fluid simulation, mental ray
rendering, or the mental ray local batch render) while you are still
connected to your license server. This automatically borrows a license
for those sub-features.
After you have used the sub-feature(s) while connected to your license
server, you can then use the sub-features later when you are not
connected.
You will need the license manager software installed on the mac to make this work.
Which you can download here.

So, tried it in the terminal after installing the licserver-software on both clients and it works.
Thanks a lot!
But, why do I have to go this way and can't use the straigth method in the app-menu of maya? The borrow process there works, too, but without the features. Seems to me like a bug

As I mentioned earlier, it is not that obvious, due to the complex license mechanism with additional features, they have decided to implement it this way. Since it is documented, we can't report it as a Bug. I understand you concerns.
I hope we will have the options within the GUI for next releases, in Windows it is bit more easier as License Manager has a GUI.
Sorry for that.
