Autodesk Inventor 2012 does not run on Windows 10

I am trying to run Autodesk Inventor Professional 2012 on my Windows 10 computer. I receive the known error 0xc0000142 when I try to open the program after a succesful installation. I have read that this problem was already known with Windows 8.1, and a hotfix was issued.

However, when I try to install this hotfix I receive an error message saying "upgradepatch cannot be installed by windows installer".

Anyone have an idea on how to proceed?

It looks like you're seeing the “The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000142)” error. Possible causes for this error include incorrectly registered DLL files, incompatible DLLs, or another program may be preventing AutoCAD from running. The following article(s) should help you resolve the problem:

You may also try uninstalling your AMD drivers completely then opening AutoCAD. If the program opens successfully, re-install the latest video driver from AMD.

Thank you for your answer. However, I did not yet find a solution.

- To begin with, your solution refers to Autocad, not Autodesk Inventor.

- There is no program on my PC called Search Protect or SW Booster or Performance Optimizer.

- Registry Key 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion \Windows\LoadAppInit_DLLs' was already set to 0.

- Not able to control NVIDIA drivers.

- No program on PC called Beyond Trust.

- No Smartbar installed

- DLL files C:\Windows\System32\acapture64.dll and C:\Windows\SysWOW64\acapture32.dll not found.

- No Windows iLivid toolbar

- No corrupt C++ installations that I'm aware of

- Switched off Antivirus, but did not resolve the problem

- Nothing in AppInit tab in "Autoruns". However, this was showed in the tab KnownDLLs:

Inventor 2012 is not supported on Windows 10 but that doesn't mean it will not run.   Have you applied at SP2 for Inventor 2012?  It can be downloaded here.    I would also recommend applying Update #4 once you have installed SP2.  Then try the hot fix.

In Autodesk Inventor 2012 world.  When it says not supported it means it will not work.  This error is known for incompatibility on Windows 10.  try it.

That's not always true.  I know someone in the past had Inventor 2012 running under Win 10.  Maybe not now with these updates.  In addition inventor 2015 doesn't support Win 10 but I've been running it for a long time under Win 10.  Here's another example.. inventor 2016 supports Win 10 but Win 10 version 1903 has caused crashes when working with content center, making this version not work properly.. In the just because it states Autodesk doesn't support  a given OS doesn't mean it will not work.  

Update:  I don't want my message sound like I'm disagreeing with you and in some aspect you are totally correct.  I would never recommend anybody to install a given version of Autodesk software on an unsupported OS.  Why risk your business and its already proven these Win 10 updates have impacted this legacy versions.   I fully understand where you're coming from and the point you have shared with the community.  However just keep this in mind you responded to a posting that's over 3 years old so at that time with Win 10...  Applying the service packs may have helped a user to run Inventor 2012 under that version of Win 10.   Thanks for sharing and have a great day.
