AutoCAD Sharing violation error/xref not found

Sometimes when trying to open a drawing that someone else already has open, Autocad asks if you want to open it "read only" and the user clicks on "yes". Then an error message pops up saying "Sharing violation error" and the user gets the browser again.

Have you seen this problem before?

Another problem is sometimes xreferences will not show up in a drawing. When you go to the Xref Manager, the status reads "Not Found". The xref IS in the path that is in the Xref Manager. This is verified using Windows Explorer. It won't let you repath to the drawing or reload it. I suspect that this problem is related to the problem above.

This problem seems to have occurred only after swtching from a Novell server to a Windows 2003 server with VMware.

The problem is not easy to solve because it is not specific to any one person, project, drawing file, drawing history, office location, or Autocad version.

Does anyone have a possible solution to this problem?

Hi.

We are using Autocad 2006 on Windows XP Professional SP3.
Each office has Riverbed steelheads. We had no problems with the steelheads while running Novell.
We are looking at the steelheads in combination with the Windows server to see if the problem lies
somewhere with them.

Some reports have been made with 2007 DWG format
but not with 2006.

See this link :

Hi Frank.

Thanks for the information. I knew that there were reports with 2007. I wish this was our problem, but it is not. We are continuing to look at the steelheads and the windows server.

Hi,

In a post you talk about vmware. Why?

Data on it?

In one office, have you had problems or is it only
between office?

Hi.

I mention VMware because the we are using VMware Executive with the Windows 2003 server. When we moved everything from the Novell server to the Windows server and began to use VMware is when the problems started. Two major changes happened at the same time; the Windows server and the VMware. The virtual server is 4 TB. It is broken down into one 2 TB drive and the rest are numerous smaller drives that equal 2 TB.

The problem exists in one office and between offices.
