Autocad Map 2000 NLM installation

I have an issue installing AutoCAD MAP 2000 NLM on an NT4 server and running
on win 2000 and NT4 clients. This is a re-installation when we did some work
on the server.

ADLM install on server ok - accepts codes and shows licence as active
( I have checked this installation by moving the ADLM to another Pc acting
as server and obtaining another licence - all seems to work ok) protocol TCP
/ip only ( I have set up name resolution in hosts file)
ADLM directory shared - I can ping everyone on the system
I can verify the existence of the active server licence by running wincntrl
from the server and the workstation, both showing active licence server

client deployment tested and retested on 2 machines - acadserver checked
original server name changed to remove _ and new code received

acad map 2000 fails to recognise the active licence and will not start
I have installed the server and client on the same machine and it still
fails to run map 2000

I have reviewed the checklists and chased around to identify the problem -
no luck yet?
Anyone have any ideas for me?

appreciate any help
rich

Hi Rich,

just a guess:
Have you checked the time/date on the clients, too?
All times and dates in your network have to be the same.

One of our costumers have success with the new "adesksys.dll". Search
the knowledgebase for "DL154103"

thanks, I'll look at that one.
it does not explain why I can't run it when the server and client are on tte
same machine which is a windows NT4 workstation.

What is the exact error message(s) encountered at the workstation. Also
check the log file and see if the startup attempts are registering. If they
are you are likely to see why the license was denied. If you do not see a
hit from the failed attempts you are not getting to the server at all. In
the later case, name resolution problems or blocked ports are often the
problem. Make sure that ping echoes the expected IP address.

If i read it right,
your server is NT4, and has the ACAD2000 ADLM
Your clients are Win2000.

Then you need to change the adesksys.dll on ALL your client machines with a new one. (the one in the standard Network installation ony works with NT4 clients)

i have a version of AutoDesk of 24-05-2000, 88kb large
If needed, i can mail it to you.

*** start quote of the readme.txt ***
In some cases, the Network versions of AutoCAD Release 14.01 and AutoCAD 2000 may be unable to connect to the AdLM License Server. Autodesk has developed a special version of the adesksys.dll file that will resolve this problem. This file should only be used on Windows 2000 workstations where the TCP/IP Network Version of AutoCAD Release 14.01 or AutoCAD 2000 is installed. Do not use this file if you are using the IPX (NetWare) version of AdLM. Please review the readme file named sys_dll.txt for further information
*** end quote ***
