Autocad files corrupted on NT file server

Autocad 2000 has some problems when working on drawing saved on an NT file server with low disk space. A lot of drawing files have been corrupted. We have some MS Word files saved on this server too and no problem with them!

Is it normal that Autocad get files corrupt in this case?

Thanks!

No, this is not "normal".  Remember that
AutoCAD data files are larger than most other application's data files and the
temporary files AutoCAD may be using on your network drive me be MUCH larger
than other applications.  That said, here are some things to
consider:

  • Make sure that you are using network adapters that
are approved for use on your operating systems.  I have seen a fair
number of file corruption cases caused by incompatible adapters and/or
out of date drivers.  This is true for the workstations as well as the
servers.  In most of these cases only AutoCAD data and other application
data that is very large has a problem.

  • Update your adapter drivers on servers and
    workstations

  • Apply the latest available service pack to your
    operating systems

  • If you are using dynamic virus protection on your
server, configure it so that it ignores AutoCAD file types.

  •  You do not mention how low on space you are
but it may be time for another disk.
