AutoCAD fails to open if Inventor not opened first...

Howdy,

We've got 20 network licenses for Inventor Professional 2009.
In order for us to open AutoCAD we fist have to open Inventor otherwise we get a License Alert error message ".... a valid license could not be obtained... etc... Error [1.5.-15]".

This all started to happen after we switched over to a new network license management server.

Thanks & Cheers,

- Jeff

It's most likely due to your AutoCAD pointing to where it thinks the old NLM is located. You can try a couple of different things to remedy this issue. One, modify the LICPATH.LIC file in the root folder of your AutoCAD application to point to the new server. Two, create a system environment variable called ADSKFLEX_LICENSE_FILE and give it a value of @servername (where servername is the hostname of your new NLM server.) Last, unplug your ethernet cable and launch AutoCAD. When presented with a license finder box, attach the ethernet cable again and put in your servername for the license server system and click OK.

Any one of these methods should redirect AutoCAD appropriately. The reason that it works when AIP2009 is launched is because it will grab the license properly and share it with AutoCAD.

Good luck!

The LICPATH.LIC mod did the trick!

Thanks!

No problem. Find and locate the LICPATH.LIC. It is in the default AutoCAD 2010 folder on C:\Program Files if that is where it is installed. Open it in Notepad. Change the servername and MAC address to the new server and save. This should be all you need to do. If this doesn't work, you will need to create a system environment variable.
