AutoCAD 2015 Unable to start 0xc0000142

Brand New fresh install of AutoCAD 2015 and it won't open. Returns the following message: The Application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000142).

Tried to install it on 3 various machines, all Windows 7, all 3 have the exact same message. Thus it's not computer related, it's either something with the build or a conflict with other software that is on all 3 of my PC's. (I.E. it's a pretty common software that it's conflicting with)

Dissappointing wanting to kick the tires on a new release and it won't even open! It's usually Christmas time for us Autodesk users, I just opened a present and found a lump of coal! 🙂

I have news for you, most of the programming is done in the USA.

I personally know programmers at Autodesk in Oregon, New England, and California.

Yes, there are programmers who reside in other countries as well, but since they have language packs for a dozen different languages, I think that is a requirement, don't you?

The windows registry mod is the only solution I've seen suggested that worked. Google the error message and you should find the one registry entry to edit. Bingo-bango, works great.

http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/installation-licensing/autocad-2015-fails-to-install-newer-version-alr...

If you look at the installation log file, you will probably find a Windows component that did not install, like the following:

2014/10/17:19:19:31 home HOME-PC Rollback Microsoft Visual C++ 2012 Redistributable (x64) Update 4 Failed Failure is ignored, Result=1619
2014/10/17:19:19:31 home HOME-PC Rollback Microsoft Visual C++ 2012 Redistributable (x86) Update 4 Failed Failure is ignored, Result=1619

You can find information on that particular error, but the solution is to go to the Control Panel and uninstall (in this case) all of the C++ elements, then run the installer again. Typicallly the Autodesk software will reinstall the C++ elements, or if it is the .NET or DirectX elements, you can go to the Microsoft website and download them.

When in Windows "Control Panel" - "Programs install/uninstall/change", make sure you have "view updates and service packs visible" checked on. This will list all the updates and SP's. Go thru the list and find the Autodesk SP's and uninstall them.

Give this a try

Like the other posted mentioned you may have a lot of uninstalls other than just Autocad 201X

good advice, I'd missed that little check

thank you for sticking in here with me

as it turned out the 2015 SP2 update was removed

I deleted the C3D 2015 registry key (local machine) and right now the install is trying again

it just told me I have a newer version already installed

I spent the better part of the day reading this string and basically getting lost in the fun house.  Finally solved the problem by uninstalling ilivid...some sort of downloading program that found its way onto my machine...fwiw.

Hi @Anonymous,

Sorry to hear about the issue. Could you please provide us with your system specs and makes sure they meet the system requirements for AutoCAD 2014? Is AutoCAD displaying any messages when it does not open?

IF your computer is running 64-bit Windows add more RAM ASAP.

Installer package error, so installation aborted.
But now I have uninstalled the full software from my laptop, want to reinstall it.
Whether my laptop specification comply with your Auto CAD 2014 software specification??
Please help out.

Hi @Anonymous

Here are the system requirements for AutoCAD 2014.

Can you give us more details on the installation failure? Did you get any error messages? Can you please post the installation log?

Thank you,

Thanks Alfred,
removing the 'Adobe Acrobat, just the 64bit Extension' worked perfectly.
Cheers from AUS.
