First if failed with an Windows Installer Service Error 1719. I finxed that by installing Windows XP-KB942233-V3-x86.exe to fix the error in Windows Installer. I got past that only to have it fail right after configuration and tell me to check the AutoCAD 2011 Setup.log. The error log is as follows;

This leaves me no place to go. This is an educational version of AutoCAD and I have never had so much trouble installing an Autodesk product. I sure would hate to see what will happen to my students when they try.

You could refer to the link below which discussues the same error code.
http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb%3Ben-us%3B834484&x=11&y=7#appliesto
The error code normally suggests insufficient user privileges during an install. Can you right click on the executable file and "Run as Administrator"?
There seems to be a problem here. When I follow the instructons provided (shown below) in the link I get no option for "Security Tab" . It comes up with "Sharing and Security" so I have no ability to set file file evel security on my computer, even if the folder is being shared. Is there something missing from my system? I am running Windows XP, SP3 with all updates installed.
In the proceedure below I do not see a group or user names box in step 4.2. Is that because I am running XP Home edition?
To grant Full Control permissions to the SYSTEM account, follow these steps:
probably xp home edition went away a few years ago autodesk products don't support it

The C++ package also tends to fail if the .NET Frameworks on the system are corrupted. Please note that the 3.5 .NET is part of the Windows 7 OS, so if you are using Windows 7, it is important to verify that this Framework is not corrupted by running the .NET verification tool:
http://blogs.msdn.com/b/astebner/archive/2008/10/13/8999004.aspx
I also suggest that you enable the Windows Installer verbose logging on the machine and manually try to install the C++ 2008 package from within the Support directory in the media or in the AdminImage of the deployment. Then the log can show what is causing the package install to fail.
This logging can be enabled by adding the following registry key:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Installer]
"Logging"="voicewarmup"
Here is an a Technical Solution which describes all of the steps I've outlined above:
http://usa.autodesk.com/getdoc/id=TS1059799
The logs will be generated in the TEMP directory which can be accessed by typing '%temp%' in the START > RUN. Please locate the logs which will have a naming convention of MSIxxxxx.log, where the x is either a letter or number.

The problem is fixed now. The problem was in my .NET Framework. It was not loaded and I could not install Visual C++ until that was done properly. Everything is cool now.
