admin rights and LMTools

I've just taken over as IT admin this past three months. I'm wanting to give permission to our CAD mgr to reset licenses when needed, but LMTools was installed on the network server, and I don't want him to have full access to the server itself. I've tried power user, but it appears LMTools requires an admin rights permission to be used.

If I was to install LMTools on another system, can I change the individual AutoDesk installations to see the new location without having to uninstall / reinstall using a new admin image?

This can for example be automated for example using a VBScript either that
is run when the user logs in or start AutoCAD the next time or manually.
Set WshShell = Wscript.CreateObject("Wscript.Shell")
Set WshSysEnv = WshShell.Environment("SYSTEM")
WshSysEnv.item("ADSKFLEX_LICENSE_FILE") = "@SERVER1;@SERVER2"

I just tried a little test by giving a standard user Remote Desktop rights
on our LMTools server, (Server2003), then logged on via remote to the server
as that user, and LMTools appeared to function fine in all aspects via
remote, even though that user didn't have full admin rights. Is this an
option for you?

You can move your LMTOOLS to another system, but you would need a brand new license file for that to work. On your client machines, you can modify the LICPATH.LIC file in the root of your Autodesk application to point to the new server, or create a system environment variable to do the same. Though, when the application can't find the original license manager, it will usually ask you to provide the location of the new server.

You can install LMTOOLS on your CAD Mgr's machine and have him connect to your server's LMTOOLS using servername@27000 in the license file box. Try it!

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. We have tried Remote Desktop, and it works if he has Admin rights, but with Power User rights or less, when he paths via program files to lmtools.exe,he gets a message he does not have the proper permisssions to start the program. If he clicks the shortcut on the desktop, nothing happens.

We are deploying a new SAN on the network later this month, so we might try the move to the new SAN then.
